Honoured to be a new Academy Awards Member, tweets Deepika Padukone!

It is a dual celebration for Deepika Padukone as the actor recently received an invite from the Academy Awards to be one of its members and was recently nominated in four categories at the Teen Choice Awards 2017.

The actor while acknowledging the invite today posted, "HONORED TO BE A NEW #ACADEMYMEMBER. @THEACADEMY #CLASSOF2017."

Along with Deepika, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan have also been extended invitations.

This has been done with an intention to diversify its membership. But, it was appalling to see why Shah Rukh Khan, who is a global name, wasn't included in the list. The Academy's later explained why the megastar wasn't on their list with a bizarre statement.

The list, of course, consists of other Hollywood biggies like Avengers headliners like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth; Star Wars stalwarts like Adam Driver, Riz Ahmed, Domhnall Gleeson and Warwick David; and box-office stars like Dwayne Johnson, Kristen Stewart and the newly crowned Wonder Woman Gal Gadot.Oscar nominees like Viggo Mortensen, Naomie Harris and Ruth Negga and even veteran show biz legend Betty White, who, at 95, is the oldest of the new invitees. The youngest invitee is Elle Fanning, at the age of 19.
