Bollywood star Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun
Kapoor's romantic drama Half Girlfriend is an adaptation of Chetan
Bhagat's novel by the same name. Directed by Mohit Suri, the movie will see
Arjun depicting the role of a national-level basketball player, Madhav Jha. The
film also stars Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role who will be seen playing
Arjun's romantic interest.
Well, it's said that an author needs some creative liberties
when it comes to putting their words onscreen through a lens of
a director. This has happened in the case of Chetan as Mohit has
eliminated his bit from the movie.
In an interview with a famous daily, Mohit told,
"Chetan asked me to make the movie, maybe because he thought I was the
right person to convert the book to a film. (However) I have edited the
narrator (Chetan) from my story. So, basically, I have cut Chetan's role from
the film."
Delving more into details about the changes he made in
story, he told, "The book was written in English, but the hero cannot
converse in that language, so that has been changed. There was also some sexual
abuse backstory to Shraddha's character that I have tweaked."
"She has a dark past. But the story will concentrate
more on the love (romantic equation with Arjun's character)," further added
Mohit.
When we communicated Chetan Bhagat, his spokesperson repudiated
such stories and told that there were any plans as such and they have no clue
about such reports.
Is it because of creative adjustments that Mohit and Chetan
have parted their ways? This is still something which will come into limelight
when the writer speaks about it in open.
Just two days back, Bhagat had posted that, "Half
Girlfriend poster, trailer, songs will all start coming out around end March/
early April." He had also added, "Absolutely extraordinary music in
Half Girlfriend. Best album in years hands down. Can't wait to share it all
with you in a couple of weeks."
Half Girlfriend is set to release on May 19, this
year.
