What started with having found a place in Khalid Mohammed’s Faction,
a compilation of 22 short stories by B-town’s top-notch artists, Rishi
Kapoor’s unrequited love story based on his real life from his pre-Bobby days
has now developed into a full-fledged script and is all set to be adapted into
a musical stage drama.
Talking to a famous daily Khalid informed that he started to
transform the short story into a script with regular inputs from the actor
himself and told, “I started developing the story into a script and narrated it
to Rishi. He kept adding his inputs and soon we had Rishi, a play in two acts,
adapted by me from a love story by Rishi Kapoor.”
While the 64-year-old actor couldn’t concentrate on the
script owing to his busy schedule and hard -to-deal-with prosthetics at the
time of filming Kapoor & Sons, Rishi continued to be serious
about the project and made it obvious when on receiving a congratulatory tweet
by Mohammed on his biography Khullam Khulla launch he wrote back telling, “Our
stage production of “Rishi” based on an incident of mine, next stop Khalid.”
Remarkably, the musical will have a romantic medley of
Rishi-Neetu’s songs and an Elvis Presley number from an evening party.
The only reason the project hasn’t yet taken off is because
Mohammed is looking for a grand launch and wants an adequate budget. He told,
“I don’t want to disappoint Rishi. I’d rather not make it than do something
tacky. We need at least double the budget,”
The stage drama will have Nishi Doshi as Neetu Singh, Amol Parasher as
the young Rishi, Danesh as Rishi’s secretary Ghanshyam and Amit Phalke as his
older avatar.
