Reacting to news that the central government has put superstar
Amitabh Bachchan's appointment as the brand ambassador of 'Incredible India'
campaign on hold due to the “Panama Papers” leak, the actor told that he was
never approached officially for the position.
“There have been queries from the media regarding my being
Brand Ambassador for 'Atulya Bharat' (Incredible India). I wish to state that I
have not been formally approached for this position. The speculation of the
media regarding its discontinuance is, therefore, not relevant as far as I am
concerned,” told a statement released on behalf of Amitabh Bachchan.
Previously in the month, a news report in a national daily
had alleged that Bachchan, among 500 Indians, had hid assets in offshore
accounts. Following the reportage, Big B issued a statement where he denied
having any knowledge about the companies named by a Panama-based law firm.
In the meantime, news is that actress Priyanka Chopra could
be the face of the campaign as the government officials feel the Desi Girl
would be the best person to represent India on a global scale.
