Veteran superstar Amitabh Bachchan's appointment as the
brand ambassador for the 'Incredible India' campaign has been seemingly put on
hold after his name surfaced on the 'Panama Papers' hullabaloo.
Though there is no official announcement yet, the alleged
scandal seems to have put Amitabh's selection under a cloud.
Previously in the month, a national daily had carried a
report alleging that Bachchan among 500 Indians had hid assets in offshore
accounts. Following the reportage, Big B issued a statement where he denied
having any knowledge about the companies named by the Panama-based law firm.
The appointment of a brand ambassador for the government's
prestigious campaign was involved in controversy late last year too after actor
Aamir Khan's comments on the “intolerance” debate. Following that Aamir ceased
to be the ambassador soon after his comments, while officially the government
cited expiry of the actor's contract and were looking for a new face.
