Prateik Babbar opens up on watching mom Smita Patil's film Manthan at Cannes!

Son of Smita Patil and Raj Babbar, renowned Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar never got to see his mother. Smita Patil lost suddenly from complications associated with childbirth not long after Prateik was born.

Prateik Babbar recently had the privilege of attending the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 17 as a representative of his mother's well-known movie Manthan. He commented about how touching seeing the well-known portrait of his late mother was for him.

Prateik Babbar spoke openly about his mother's remarkable accomplishment at the age of just twenty. In a daily interview, he expressed his immense pride in being her son. He emphasized that the day of the crew's honoring at the renowned Cannes Film Festival, 37 years after her passing, was historic for Indian cinema and for the entire Manthan team.

Prateik Babbar also hailed her as the greatest actor in Indian cinema, saying, "Watching her on-screen at Cannes solidified her legacy and body of work for me. She is undeniably one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema... one of the greatest to ever do it. Period."

In the same interview, he disclosed that Smita Patil, who starred in Manthan at the age of 20, lacked acting instruction. "Everybody was in absolute awe of her brilliant and mature performance. She was all of 20 years old and untrained as an actor when she shot the film. This just proves that she was born to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. I have humongous shoes to fill, but I embrace it all and will never stop striving to be just like her," he further disclosed.

Shyam Benegal, a well-known director, borrowed inspiration for his 1976 film Manthan from Verghese Kurien's revolutionary milk cooperative movement. The film stood noteworthy due to its distinctive production technique, which was entirely supported by 500,000 farmers at a cost of Rs 2.
