Famous for her part in the comedy series Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain, Saumya Tandon first objected to the show's title and continued to turn down the role of Anita Bhabhi for six to seven months. She was hesitant to take the role, but the producers persisted in encouraging her. The show debuted in 2015 and Saumya starred in it for more than five years.
In an interview with a media source, Saumya Tandon said she thought she had made a career-ending error when she started shooting. The actress expressed her concern of being known as Bhabi ji forever in a phone conversation with her then-boyfriend. "I thought I had ruined my career and said I would just die as Bhabi ji," she recalled.
The producers threatened to sue Saumya because the show was scheduled to air the next week, when she begged to cancel. She did, however, ultimately come to see the performance as a worthwhile experience and decided to stay, picking up a lot of knowledge from her director and fellow actors.
Saumya Tandon departed Bhabi Ji
Ghar Par Hain! in 2020, having appeared in the sitcom for more than five years.
She said she "sacrificed a lot of money" to quit the show.
"My producer kept urging me to stay, saying, 'Don’t go. It's not easy to
find this kind of money. Your show is very popular.' However, the money wasn't
motivating me enough, and I felt I needed to explore new opportunities in this
one life," she clarified.
