Actress-filmmaker Nandita Das is gearing up to make a movie
on famous Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan Manto and we have learned that the lead
role will be played by none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Approving the news, Das, who will helm the Indo-French
production, disclosed that she had Nawaz in mind since day one for the role and
that though there was a pressure on her to cast a mainstream actor, she decided
to go ahead with Nawaz. Das added that the movie will cover a period of seven
years between 1946 and 1952, which was an important phase in the history of the
subcontinent.
Nandita also disclosed that the movie, which will be titled
Manto, will not be a cradle-to-grave biopic, but a drama celebrating the life
and work of a writer who was a natural rebel.
Nawaz will be next seen playing a serial killer in Raman
Raghav 2.0, which also stars Vicky Kaushal.
