Actress Kangana Ranaut has been subjected to a lot of
mud-slinging over the past few weeks, what with one ex-lover sending her legal
notices and the other calling her names. But, the stubborn woman says that name
calling doesn't scare her.
In a current interview, Adhyayan Suman had claimed that
Kangana used to perform black magic, add her menstrual blood to his food and
mentally and physical abuse her and Kangana tells that though such statements
are a little disturbing for her, she cares a damn.
In a current interview, to a leading news channel the
actress told, ''The recent turn of events have been extremely alarming for me
though I have been raised in an environment, which is quite misogynistic, let's
be frank there's no denying that we are an extremely sexist country. So even
for me the recent turn of events were quite unsettling,''
''It doesn't upset me when people call me names, talk about
my period blood but let's not call it gross as there is nothing gross about
period blood, it's my ability to reproduce. Calling it gross give women a sort
of complex, women, who will tomorrow lead our country, to believe that there is
something gross about being a woman. If there is nothing gross about a man's
body fluid then there is nothing mysterious or evil about a woman's menstrual
blood,'' she further said.
Talking about being called a witch, she told, ''As far as
all this name calling is concerned, we as women have defended ourselves for way
too long. These are thousand years old weapons that are still being used
against women. When they are jealous of a woman's success the first thing she
becomes is a Dayan, then she goes on to become a whore, then she goes on to
become a slut and if she is crazily successful she becomes a psychopath. If she
is sexually active she becomes a whore. All this is really outdated.''
''It doesn't upset me because I'm an artist and I have very
closely researched on people who deal with mental illness and I don't find
anything degrading about fighting a mental illness. A certain section of the
media is trying to suggest that to humiliate a woman you can use mental
illness. It won't work because I have played a schizophrenic, I have played a
bipolar patient on screen and thus, I don't see anything humiliating when they
call me a psychopath, a bitch or a whore. I have played a whore on screen as
well and my interaction with prostitutes has made me extremely empathetic
towards them. Like any other artiste I'm smitten with witches, demons and
fairies or mysticism or romanticism and it doesn't scare me,'' told the
National Award-winner.
