Udta Punjab’s deep influence on Priyanka’s film Sarvann!

International actress Priyanka Chopra is thrilled about her home production Sarvann. The film based in Punjab, is about an NRI boy played by Amrinder Gill, coming to India to connect to his true roots. In an interview with a famous tabloid, Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra disclosed that the inspiration behind the film was Udta Punjab.

She told, "It was disturbing (Udta Punjab). There have also been continued reports about how the youth of Punjab is going ashtray from their own identity. Priyanka has made a much needed, impactful film." 

She further added, "The film doesn't have those typical Punjabi embellishments of bhangra songs and Punjabi-style weddings. But it conveys a hard-hitting message amid a very engaging story."

Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt were cherished for their fun and a quirky stint on the opening episode of Koffee With Karan season five. Both of them were questioned about the performances of their colleagues, and how do they fare in the race of winning awards this season.

Karan Johar, the host of the show, praised Alia for her unbelievable performance in Udta Punjab and asked her whether it was the act of the year according to her. He further went on to ask, if she felt her acting was better than Sonam Kapoor in Neerja! To which Alia answered, "Honestly, I think that Sonam was very good in Neerja."

Karan Johar was not happy with Alia's tactful response and probed her further, "I didn't want your politically correct speech." He further questioned Ms. Bhatt if there was an award ceremony and she won't win the award - how will she feel? To this, Alia instantly answered, "I would be upset. Not upset, but I would be like 'why not'?."

Nobody from Censor Board could have leaked 'Udta Punjab', says Anurag Kashyap!

Film Udta Punjab's co-producer Anurag Kashyap said that he doesn't think anybody from the Censor Board could be involved in leaking the print.

On June 15, just two days before the controversial film's release, the film was leaked online with 'For Censor' written on the top left corner. Speaking to an entertainment portal, the Bombay Velvet director told that nobody from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) would be involved in leaking the movie.

Following the leak, Kashyap posted a post on Facebook urging people to wait till Saturday to download the film. In the meantime, the movie, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, has been well received by audience and critics.

SRK and Alia Bhatt bonded over watching TV Shows and Games!

Alia Bhatt, who is one of the most gifted actress of her generation, bonded with superstar Shah Rukh Khan on movies, TV shows and games while shooting for their forthcoming Gauri Shinde-directorial. The two actors wrapped up shooting of the movie in May.

  

Alia told that of late she has become a hyper film and TV watcher thanks to SRK. The 23-year-old further added that while shooting the movie, the two discussed about which TV show and film they were watching and also played an online game on the sets.

In the meantime, Alia, who has been lauded for her performance in Udta Punjab, has several projects in the pipeline including Shashank Khaitan's Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Pahlaj Nihalani wants speedy review in CBFC guidelines!

After being in the eye of the storm in the Udta Punjab hullabaloo, Pahlaj Nihalani, chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) told that the Board was simply following the guidelines.

The CBFC had suggested 89 cuts in the movie, following which the makers of the movie approached the Bombay High Court challenging the ordered cuts.

On Monday, the court cleared the Abhishek Chaubey-directorial with just one cut. Speaking to a leading daily, Nihalani told that the Board respects the Court's decision. He further added that he was following the guidelines for censorship and if those guidelines are outdated that is not his fault.

He added that CBFC guidelines need immediate revision as per the recommendation of the committee set up under the chairmanship of filmmaker Shyam Benegal. Many in the film industry have demanded Nihalani's resignation following the court's order, but Nihalani told that he is not answerable to the industry and if the government asks him to step down he will do so.

Udta Punjab, which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, will release on June 17.

Clear Udta Punjab With One Cut, Bombay High Court Tells Censor Board!

The makers of forthcoming movie Udta Punjab, which revolves around drug abuse in Punjab and was involved in a battle with the Censor Board, can now finally heave a sigh of relief as the Bombay High Court has allowed the release of the movie with just one cut.

From what we have overheard, the Court just asked that the scene showing Shahid Kapoor urinating on the stage be deleted. A Division Bench of Justices SC Dharmad hikari and Shalini Phansalkar Joshi heard the plea filed by Udta Punjab's co-producer Phantom Films against the 13 cuts suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the film. The judges also said that they don't find anything in the film that shows Punjab in a bad light or affects the sovereignty or integrity of India as claimed by CBFC. Earlier, the High Court had told the CBFC that the multiplex audience is mature enough, adding that people should be allowed to see the film as everyone has a choice.

An overjoyed Anurag Kashyap took to his Twitter page to retweet a link to the news regarding the High Court decision and to write, “I believe!” The movie, which is being jointly made by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, will release on its scheduled date-June 17.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey and starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, Udta Punjab was inspired by an investigative report in a magazine about rampant drug abuse in Punjab.

We have been reading about the conflict between the makers of forthcoming movie Udta Punjab and the Censor Board, but not many know about the exact words and scenes that the Board wants to be deleted from the movie.

We finally have to manage to get our hands on the list of things that the Censor is frowning on and wants the makers of the movie to do away with. Have a look at the recommendations of the Board-

•           Delete sign of Board of Punjab in the beginning.

•           Delete Punjab, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Tarantaran, Jashanpura, Ambesar, Ludhiana and Moga to be deleted from background and dialogue wherever it occurs.

•           From song no. 1 delete the word 'Chiitave' and 'H*r*mi' everywhere.

•           From song no. 2 delete 'tom di c*ck jevhe chitti chitti c*ck' and 'coke c*ck' in the entire song.

•           Delete B****c**d, B****c**d*, B**d, T*tt*, G**d**, G**d*, l**d*, h***mz**d*, m*****c**d, chusa hua aam, k*tt*, m**yove, kudi c**d*, l*ll*, g*sht*, from everywhere including background wherever it occurs. Reg. Tommy, B****c**do, B****c**d, before TCR 1.31. allowed and after that all to be deleted.

•           Delete the word 'Election'. 'MP'. 'Party from party worker, MLA, Punjab, Parliament.

•           From the song No. 3, delete the visuals of scratching/ itching side portion by Sardar.

•           Delete the closeup shots of injecting the drugs wherever it appears.

•           Delete the shot of urinating by Tommy in front of the crowd.

•           Delete the line 'Jamin Banzar le Aulad Kanjar'

•           Delete the name of dog as 'Jacky Chain'.

Shahid Kapoor's 40 tattoos for 'Udta Punjab''s Tommy Singh!

Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen playing the role of an unconventional rockstar named Tommy Singh in forthcoming movie Udta Punjab, is seen sporting tattoos on his lean body and we overhear that the actor was made to sport around 40 tattoos in the film!

A close source told, ''Shahid who was on a low carb diet went through hours to put and remove 40 odd tattoos daily for Tommy Singh!! It was a tedious process of donning 40 such odd tattoos and then removing them before every shot....however Shahid made sure that nothing was a miss even though it was a time-consuming process.''

Shahid has stated in the past that Tommy Singh is the wildest character that he has ever played. Apart from Shahid, Udta Punjab also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh.

Anurag Kashyap, who is quite annoyed with the Censor Board for not being fair to his forthcoming production Udta Punjab, gushed about the movie during a recent media interaction and told that it is the most 'honest' movie he has ever seen.

Speaking about the movie, Kashyap, who shot to fame with Black Friday, a gritty and realistic film about the 1993 bomb blasts, told, ''Udta Punjab is the most honest film I have ever seen… It is more honest than my film Black Friday and whoever has any issue with this film, has to be corrupt. We want the film to be released without any cuts and we will fight for it if need be.''

I dream of winning an Academy Award one day, says Alia Bhatt!

Actress Alia Bhatt, who is presently waiting for her next release Udta Punjab, has given some outstanding performance in movies like Highway and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. The 23-year-old, who has won several awards in India, told that she dreams of winning an Academy Award one day.

According to Alia, she only thinks about a day where she is receiving an Academy Award in front of a crowded auditorium. She further added that for her winning an Oscar is just as big as marriage is for most girls.

In her forthcoming movie Udta Punjab, Alia plays a Bihari immigrant who is raped by a drug mafia. The movie, which is slated to release on June 17, is still to get certification from the Censor Board.

Kareena plays real doctor in 'Udta Punjab'!

Kareena Kapoor Khan will be seen playing an idealistic doctor in forthcoming movie Udta Punjab, but what many might not know is that Kareena's character is based on an actual doctor who the director Abhishek Chaubey met while researching for the movie.

Explaining on the same, Chaubey told that while in Tarn Taran, he met a doctor of psychiatry, who travelled every day from Amritsar to see addicts hooked to drugs. Chaubey added that when he asked the doctor why he chooses to drive for a couple of hours from Amritsar to Tarn Taran to help addicts fight drugs, the doctor reportedly said that he does this because someone has to. Chaubey revealed that this doctor proved to be an inspiration for Kareena's character.

Udta Punjab also stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh and others.

Ever since their split in 2007, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor have played the avoidance game. Lately, at the trailer launch of their forthcoming movie Udta Punjab, the former flames came face to face and maintained a safe distance.

But, when questioned about her openness to work with her Jab We Met co-star, Kareena told that she would love to work with Shahid. According to her, it is an outdated concept that people who have dated cannot work together. She also said that they are professionals and she would not let her emotions come in the way of work.

We talk about substance abuse but a film on it, with such wonderful actors, I think Abhishek should be applauded for it.''

Explaining on the same, Shahid told that Tommy Singh is a very eccentric and loud character and as Shahid is not like that at all in his personal life, he had to work a lot on his performance and body language. Shahid also added that though he worked out for the role, he did not want a physique like that of a bodybuilder's but rather wanted to look like someone who is into substance abuse.

Kareena Kapoor plays the role of Dr. Shivani Gupta in 'Udta Punjab'!

Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan will be next seen playing a doctor in forthcoming movie Udta Punjab and the makers of the movie disclosed her look on social media.

In the still, Kareena is seen wearing a white coat typically worn by doctors with a simple salwar kameez under it. The actress will be seen playing the role of Dr. Shivani Gupta, who moves from the big city to the interiors of Punjab to treat victims of drug abuse. Kareena will be paired opposite Diljit Dosanjh, who plays a tough cop in the movie.
