Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Raees was one of the few hits of
2017. The film also starred Pakistani actor Mahira Khan.
If you are speculating whether a sequel to the film will be
made, producer Ritesh Sidhwani just verified it, it seems.
In a Twitter chat with director Rahul Dholakia, Ritesh told,
"Look at the brighter side the audience we have for the sequel
#RaeesReturns."
This was in reply to Rahul's tweet wherein he claimed that
Raees was the most pirated film in 2017.
Well, we are sure SRK fans will be happy to know this. But,
we wonder if Mahira will be a part of it, considering the changing ties with
Pakistan.
In the meantime, Shah Rukh is busy with Aanand L Rai's next
Zero wherein he will star opposite Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. In the
movie, Shah Rukh will be seen playing a double role, one of which will be a
dwarf.
Director Rahul Dholakia’s Raees, a movie that seems so oddly
inspired by the TV series on Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar that it is
impossible to analyze it in isolation.
Recall those movies from the 70s, which often had the hero
playing an anti-establishment gangster with a heart of gold, who finally falls
prey to a righteous cop's bullets? Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees, which releases
this weekend, is more or less the similar plot all once again.
Raees (SRK) grows up in 70s Gujarat believing that crime
does pay and starts working for a bootlegger, who nurtures him. But, Raees and
his associate Sadiq (Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub) grow too big for their boots and
this brings them in conflict with honest cop Jaideep Majmudar (Nawazuddin
Siddiqui), who makes it his life's mission to bring down Khan's illicit empire.
Shah Rukh Khan, who has been essaying romantic characters
since ages, wears spectacles, kohl-rimmed eyes and a pathani to play a tough
gangster and it is indeed refreshing to see that Shah Rukh Khan has lost none
of his boastfulness despite crossing 50. When it comes to fierce intensity, no
one can beat SRK and the King Khan proves this yet again with Raees.
As an actor, SRK brings to Raees his natural screen
presence. But also something that has shades of his early career: the ability
to play the menacing anti-hero, with a simmering, all-consuming anger.
Dholakia couldn’t have found a stronger support cast. The
cop, Majmudar (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), has the best lines, and is a praiseworthy
screen rival.
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui holds his own despite not having a
substantial role and is humorous and intimidating in equal measures. The fact
that Majmudar wants to destroy Raees despite having a grudging respect for him,
makes his character seem more disturbing. Mahira Khan, who essays SRK's wife
Aasiya doesn't get to do much and neither does Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub, who I
believe is one of the best actors we have today.
As for the movie itself, it has a very foreseeable plot, an old
story and stock characters- a gangster with a heart of gold, his helpful
ladylove, a loyal subordinate, an honest cop, wily politicians, an apparently
benevolent mentor et al.
For someone who grew up watching movies like Deewaar and
Scarface, Raees offers nothing new as such. If that was not all, the action
scenes are quite boring and the 'Moharram' action sequence is so poorly
executed that you may end up conjecturing what were the makers thinking of
while filming those scenes.
The makers also make their lead character mouth dialogues
against communalism and 'bhed bhaav' on grounds of 'dharm'. If the trailer of
the movie promised a gritty crime thriller, be prepared to be disappointed for
the film offers nothing much apart from the fiery intensity of the incomparable
Shah Rukh Khan, who carries the entire movie on his capable shoulders.
Overall, Raees is a good film for Shah Rukh Khan’s die-hard
fans to see his stellar performance!
As the day of the big box office clash nears, the movie goers
and film industry experts are thrilled to see how Kaabil and Raees will
perform at the box office. And while Hrithik has taken it all in good faith as
his previous statements have reflected, the 42-year-old also wishes well for
both the flicks.
As per communication with the media lately the Mohenjo
Daro star told, “Hopefully both films will do well, but on the whole, it
will be a loss of about Rs 100 crores for the industry as compared to both the
films releasing individually. My father understands that and he is sad about
that, and he thinks that it could have been managed in a better way, but we
completely understand Raees was in the waiting for too long.”
He further added, “My wish is that when both the films do
well, Shah Rukh, I, dad, Farhan and everyone will pop champagne and celebrate
for each other.”
Directed by Sanjay Gupta, Kaabil also stars Yami
Gautam and will hit the silver screen on January 25.
Enthusiasts were thrilled when they saw the Raees trailer
- for two key reasons. One being the man himself - Shah Rukh Khan, and second,
his female lead Mahira Khan's scenes were not chopped off unlike what happened
with Ali Zafar during Dear Zindagi.
Hopes were high when film's producer Ritesh Sidhwani at the
trailer launch event of Raees informed that if required, Mahira will join
in the film's promotions. But enthusiasts, your happiness was momentary!
Yesterday, Shah Rukh met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)
chief Raj Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai along with Ritesh. Post the
meeting, Thackeray said the press that SRK has informed him that Mahira
would not be promoting the movie!
In the past, MNS has objected to casting of
Pakistani actors in Bollywood movies owing to terror attacks in India. Even in
October, huge hue and cry was made against the release of Karan
Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil for featuring Pak actor Fawad Khan.

much delayed movie Raees is slated to hit screens on Republic Day next year and
we have just heard some thrilling news about the trailer of the movie.
News has it that the trailer of Rahul Dholakia's next, which
is based on bootlegging, will be attached to Khan's another forthcoming movie
Dear Zindagi, which is slated to release on November 25. While Khan will be
seen playing Alia Bhatt's 'love guru' in Dear Zindagi, the star will be seen
playing a bootlegger from Gujarat in Raees, which also stars Mahira Khan and
Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Generally calm and confident in her demeanour, Sunny Leone
was a bundle of nerves when she met Shah Rukh Khan to shoot her item number in
the forthcoming movie Raees. Sunny who will be shaking a leg with the SRK in
the reprise version of 1980 hit Laila O Laila, told that she found it tremendously
difficult to control her emotions.
The Mastizaade actress told that she behaved like a 'dork'
in front of SRK and added that she was star-struck and at a loss for words when
she faced the Baadshah.
Since the start of her Bollywood journey, the 34-year-old Sunny
Leone has expressed her wish to work with SRK. She added that it was a dream
come true to see herself with Shah Rukh Khan in one frame.
Sunny Leone will be seen dancing to the iconic Laila O Laila
number in Shah Rukh Khan's forthcoming movie Raees and the Indo-Canadian
started shooting for the track.
It seems that Leone could not believe that she is getting to
shake a leg with the SRK and posted on her Twitter page, ''1st time on a film
set where I kept wanting2pinch myself2see if it was real or a dream. Amazing
1st day!'' The makers of the movie have created a set of a retro bar, in which
Sunny will be seen dancing while patrons are served illegal alcohol.
Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Raees also stars Mahira Khan and
Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
When Shah Rukh Khan's forthcoming movie Raees was going on
floors, there had been news that Khan's character is based on so-called
bootlegger Abdul Latif, who ran the illicit liquor business in Gujarat during
the peak of Prohibition in the 1990s.
At present, it seems that this connection might prove to be worrying
for the Raees team as we have heard that Mustak Ahmed, the son of Abdul Latif,
has sent legal notices to nine prominent people involved with the making of
Raees, including SRK, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and
director Rahul Dholakia, asking them to cease and stop with their film as it is
feared that it might depict Abdul Latif in a negative light.
Film Raees, which is slated to release this Eid, also stars
Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
We had informed previously that Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be
seen playing the role of a cop in Rahul Dholakia's next directorial endeavor
Raees, which stars Shah Rukh Khan and we lately managed to get our hands on a
still from the movie sets, which shows Nawaz in his cop avatar.
The still shows Nawazuddin Sidiqqui wearing a police uniform
and aviator shades and we must say that the actor looks quite dashing in the
get up. Nawaz will be pitted against Khan, who plays a bootlegger from 80s era
Gujarat in Raees.
Besides Raees, Nawaz will be seen in TE3N, which also stars
Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan.
