The Thespian of Indian cinema, legendary actor Dilip Kumar passes away at 98!


The Thespian of Indian cinema, legendary Dilip Kumar, 98, took his last breath at the PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on July 7th, 2021 at 7:30 am. He passed away after prolonged age related health issues. Recently, the news has come after Dilip Sahab was hospitalised following episodes of breathlessness. Dr Jalil Parkar, who was treating him confirmed the news.

The Ram Aur Shyam star Dilip Kumar's Twitter handle, which was being managed by a family friend Faisal Farooqui, also confirmed the actor's demise. "With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return," Farooqui tweeted.  

A media agency tweet read, "Veteran actor Dilip Kumar passes away at the age of 98, says Dr Jalil Parkar, the pulmonologist treating the actor at Mumbai's PD Hinduja Hospital."

Kumar debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata (1944), produced by Bombay Talkies. In a career spanning over five decades, Kumar worked in over 65 films. Kumar is known for roles in films such as the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the social drama Daag (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the epic historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960), the social dacoit crime drama Gunga Jamuna (1961), and the comedy Ram Aur Shyam (1967). He is famous as the Tragedy King due to the portrayal of a broken lover in numerous movies through the 1950s, including the Bimal Roy classic, Devdas in 1955.

Among the other iconic roles, the most memorable one for Dilip Kumar is the historic portrayal of Prince Salim in Mughal-E-Azam, which proved to be the greatest tale of romance upon its release. The talented Dilip Kumar has motivated a generation of actors, including the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Dilip Kumar’s last on-screen appearance was in 1998 in the Umesh Mehra directed Qila, which featured him in a double role. Before Qila was Subhash Ghai’s Saudagar (1990), which emerged a smash hit at the box-office. Referred to as the "Tragedy King" and "The First Khan", he has been credited for bringing a distinct form of method acting technique to cinema. Kumar holds the record for most wins for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and was also the inaugural recipient of the award.

As soon as the news of his demise came in, Bollywood joined in mourning the loss of the 'Tragedy King' of Indian cinema. Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Manoj Bajpayee, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Vicky Kaushal, Ananya Panday, Huma Qureshi, Hansal Mehta and many others took to social media to remember the legend. Karan Johar, Katrina Kaif, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur also expressed grief as they mourned the loss of the thespian.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Akshay Kumar wrote, "To the world many others may be heroes. To us actors, he was The Hero. #DilipKumar Sir has taken an entire era of Indian cinema away with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Om Shanti."

On the other hand, Ajay Devgn wrote, "Shared many moments with the legend...some very personal, some on stage. Yet, nothing really prepared me for his passing away. An institution, a timeless actor. Heartbroken. Deepest condolences to Sairaji."

Big B took to Twitter to express how the history of Indian cinema is related with the renowned actor. He wrote, "T 3958 - An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written , it shall always be 'before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar' .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss ..Deeply saddened." Manoj Bajpayee wrote, "No One like you !!! Have a great Journey from here on Master ….सादर नमन  Rest in Peace." Ananya Panday, Kiara Advani, Zoya Akhtar took to Instagram stories to express grief over the legend's demise. Kareena shared a photo of Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor together to remember him. Shahid Kapoor paid a heartfelt tribute with a note. He wrote, "We are all nothing but versions of you Dilip Saab. Every actor has studied you in awe. Wondering how you did it all. You were as close to PERFECT as it can get. As you return to your spiritual home. The prayers of millions are with you. Thank you for giving us all you did. And sharing your enlightened soul with us through all your breathtaking performances. You will live on forever sir. You are TIMELESS. Rest in peace."

Vicky Kaushal recalled Dilip Saab and wrote, "Every head must bow, every tongue must confess that he’s the greatest of all time.” .Rest in Peace. #DilipKumarSaab." Farah Khan Kunder also took to social media to remember the well-known actor. She wrote, "I was all of 4 yrs old when i saw my first stampede.. #dilipkumar walked into a wedding reception.. there was hysteria.. women thronged to see him, the bridal couples stage broke!! Such was the magic! He was known as the tragedy king, but i was always a fan of his comedic timing.. there will be no1 like him .. deepest condolences to #sairaji n his family." Rajkummar Rao, John Abraham also joined in other Bollywood stars to remember 'Dilip Saab' and his contribution to Indian cinema.

The senior actor's demise has not just left Bollywood shocked. It has also affected millions of fans across the globe. Numerous fans and celebs are paying emotional tributes to the legendary actor as they bid him adieu on social media.

Now, as per reports, Dilip Kumar's funeral would be held with full state honours in Mumbai on Wednesday, July 7. His Twitter handle also shared the news with followers.

On Dilip Kumar's Twitter handle, his family tweeted, "Burial today at 5:00 PM. Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz Mumbai." As per a popular paparazzi's handle, Dilip Kumar would be laid to rest with full state honour at 5 PM today in Mumbai. Earlier, photos of Saira Banu leaving the hospital with Dilip Kumar's mortal remains came in. Fans of the actor gathered outside the hospital and police had to intervene to clear roads for the ambulance to pass.



As per the recent update, the legendary star has been given full state honours wherein he was draped in tricolour. The jawans of Maharashtra police had gathered at Dilip Kumar’s residence to give him full state honour. Besides, the late actor’s friends and family had also gathered at his residence to pay their last respects ahead of the funeral. Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu was also papped at the residence who has been inconsolable post the actor’s demise.

Legendary star Dilip Kumar in hospital due to health issue!


As per media updates, hours after he was admitted to city's Hinduja hospital for breathlessness, Dilip Kumar has now been put on oxygen support. As per numerous media reports, the veteran actor has been diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion. The doctors also registered a drop in oxygen saturation and has thus been put on oxygen support as of now.

As per medical terms, Pleural effusion is sometimes referred to as fluid around the lungs or water on the lungs. Presently, the legendary veteran star has been admitted at Mumbai's PD Hinduja hospital.

His hospitalisation was confirmed on the 98-year-old actor's official Twitter handle. It read, "Dilip Sahab has been admitted to non-Covid PD Hinduja Hospital Khar for routine tests and investigations. He’s had episodes of breathlessness. A team of healthcare workers led by Dr. Nitin Gokhale is attending to him. Please keep Sahab in your prayers and please stay safe."

Saira Banu denies Pneumonia rumours of Dilip Kumar!


Veteran megastar Dilip Kumar’s health has always been a matter of concern for his admirers. Lately, it was being reported that the veteran actor has been diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia and is being treated at his residence. But, his wife, Saira Banu has disagreed to any such news and told that Dilip Kumar is suffering from regular fever.

In a media chat, Saira Banu told that “He is fine and is at home. Someone has started this rumour that he is having pneumonia, but there is no such thing. He is just having a regular cold and fever. He is at home and recovering.”

Dilip Kumar was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital in early October after he complained of a chest infection.

Priyanka Chopra’s meeting with veteran Dilip Kumar!

Numerous actors have been visiting well-known actor Dilip Kumar at his residence after he was discharged from the hospital a few weeks back. Previously, we saw Shah Rukh Khan visit Yusuf Saab's home and spending quality time with him.

Recently, Priyanka Chopra was snapped with her mother Madhu Chopra entering the building where Dilip Kumar says. Later on, Dilip Saab's Twitter page shared two pictures where Priyanka is interacting and kissing Dilip Saab's forehead while his wife Saira Banu looks on.


The pictures were tweeted telling, ".@priyankachopra spent the evening with Saab and Saira Baji. Saab's health much better. -FF"

SRK visits Dilip Kumar at his house!

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was lately hospitalized following a health scare. He was admitted to the ICU and was treated for kidney-related ailment. The thespian has now recovered and was discharged from the hospital a week ago.

Shahrukh Khan who idolizes Dilip Kumar and considers him a pillar of Hindi cinema was spotted visiting him recently. He had previously told, “Even words like ‘icon’ are very less for him. He is the forefather, the pillar of the film industry... Amongst the last few pillars left. He is one of the greatest human beings apart from being the actor. I know them personally so I can say that.”

Dilip Kumar too has been very fond of Shahrukh Khan. He was previously quoted telling, “Shah Rukh is a charmer and a well-brought up young man. He has always been loving and respectful as well-bred Pathans are with elders. I know Saira likes him a lot.”


Dilip Kumar has faced some medical complications in the recent years. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital earlier this year for fever and nausea. The 94 year old actor is currently said to be doing fine.

Dilip Kumar feels humble after receiving the Living Legend Lifetime Award!

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar - the living legend - has given us many unforgettable movies like Mughal-E-Azam, Ram Aur Shyam and Naya Daur. With his brilliance in acting, Kumar has made a special place in our hearts. But, he has been in headlines for his health. He hasn't been keeping that well. 

Recently, Dilipji took to Twitter and gave a little sneak peek about his health to his admirers. He posted, "God's grace and your prayers with me. I am much better. Slight discomfort and an irritating back pain." 

He was also honored with a lifetime achievement award from Punjab Association. He thanked them via Twitter and posted, "God is kind. Humbled at receiving the Living Legend Lifetime Award from Punjab Association this afternoon."  

With the post, he also uploaded the pictures of him receiving the award. Kumar also told thanks to artist Asid Farooqui who has painted a wall mural for him. He posted, "So much love from Asif Farooqui. Thank you for this beautiful wall mural on Hill Road in Bandra. God bless you."

Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu has always been by his side. Earlier, Saira Banu took to his Twitter account and confirmed that he is doing well. In a series of tweets, she posted, "By the grace of God, Dilip Sahab is at home and doing well. God has been very kind. Sahab believes that to be surrounded by family and friends who love him unconditionally is therapy by itself. Sahab is blessed with the prayers and love of his millions of fans, admirers, friends and well wishers. Dilip Sahab himself will be back on twitter soon, Insha’Allah."


Last year, around April, he had been hospitalized for nearly a week due to respiratory problems, but now it seems that he's doing fine.

Sayyeshaa Saigal’s pretty and nice look in Shivaay as per Saira Banu!




Sayyeshaa Saigal, Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu's grandniece, is ready to make her Bollywood debut with Ajay Devgn's Shivaay. She got candid when we questioned her about Dilip and Saira's 50th wedding anniversary and speaking about the celebrations, she told, "We had a very small family gathering and not too many people were there. You know 50 years is a lifetime, I told them that. It's truly a lot of time and they are the most loving couple I have seen on the planet. She is such a devoted wife." 

"Phupho Nana (Dilip Kumar) is not keeping all that well these days and the amount of looking after she does and the devotion is like how we have for God. It's something we don't see in today's world. The devotion that they have for each other is something people should take from them," further added Sayyeshaa.  


When we questioned her whether they both have watched the trailer or not - her answer to our query was simple. She revealed, "Yes, they have watched the trailer and even the song Tera Naal Ishqa. Phupho Nani found me pretty and also told that I looked nice. She really liked the way it was shot because it was shot beautifully."

Its Golden Jubilee for Dilip Kumar-Saira Banu’s blissful union and lovingness!







In this modern era, where relations are trembling away in a minute, there's this one evergreen pair of Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu who have really reaffirmed our belief in love and marriages. The legendary duo got married on October 11th, 1966 and completes 50 golden years.

When both got married then Dilip Kumar was 44 and Saira Banu was only 22but love happened. Dilip Kumar-Saira Banu's love story is just like movies as with the age difference of nearly 22 years, this was a strange union of two lovers.

Saira Banu's mother- Naseem Banu played a key role in sanctifying their Nikaah. The two got wedded at the Bandra bungalow where the couple resides even today. Only close friends were invited to the guest list.

Dilip Kumar got married Saira in 1966 and after four years the real life duo came together for Gopi (1970). Together, these two actors have made their presence felt in films like Choti Bahu (1971), Duniya (1984), Sagina (1974) and Bairaag (1976).

Both have never shied away from admitting their fondness for each other. Even at public events, the beautiful couple has been captured stealing a moment or two of love.
  
Saira Banu on numerous times has expressed her love for her better (read best) half. She once told, "I fell in love with Dilip Saab when I was 12 years old. Beyond my own romance, I can't see anything. I am still head over heels in love with my Kohinoor, Yousuf Sahab, the way I was when I first felt attracted to him."

On this, Dilip Kumar posted on social media, "You're a daughter of moon, who's come down from the heavens. (bint-e-mehtab ho garduon se utar aayi ho). The heart did not find solace until I met you ."
  

It's been 50 glorious years for Saira Banu- Dilip Kumar’s togetherness. We congratulate both for this heavenly and lovingly union and closeness.

Hospitalized Dilip Kumar thanks fans for prayers, love and affection!

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who had been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra a few days back after he complained of respiratory issues, seems to be doing quite well now and vetran actor took to his Twitter page to reach out to his fans and followers.
  
Kumar posted, ''By God's grace feeling brighter and better. Thank you all for your prayers, love and affection.” A couple of days back, Dilip Saab's wife Saira Banu had issued a statement, which read, ''Dilip Saab was admitted to Lilavati Hospital for treatment of high fever and chest infection. He was advised intravenous administration of antibiotics for speedy recovery. Oral drugs would not act as fast as the IV injections, the doctors advised. Hence it became necessary to shift him to the hospital. He is recovering well and is stable by the grace of God and the care of doctors treating him. He is in a room in the hospital and not in the ICU as spread by rumours."

We have heard that Dilip Kumar will be discharged from the hospital soon.
  

The 93-year-old legend is known for giving hits like Madhumati, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam, Karma and others in a career spanning over six decades.
