Superstar Aamir Khan along with wife Kiran Rao, Zaira Wasim
and Advait Chandan attended the trailer launch of Secret Superstar, yesterday.
Aamir was at his candid best as he spoke about the forthcoming
film which is about a 14-year-old girl named Insia who desires to be a singer
much to the chagrin of her father. She then decides to make her own YouTube
channel in which she posts videos of herself singing while covering her face in
a burkha. She is then scouted by Aamir's character who is a music director and
is mesmerized by Insia's musical gift.
The actor spoke about how Secret Superstar is related to
Dangal in terms of both being about women empowerment. He told, "Secret
Superstar as well as Dangal; they both are on the same topic. The fact that we
look at girls in a different manner in comparison to our treatment towards
boys. This is again a film which is based on the empowerment of the girl
child."
Directed by debutant Advait Chandan and co-produced by Aamir
Khan, Kiran Rao, Zee Studios and Akash Chawla, Secret Superstar is slated to
release on October 19, 2017.
During the launch, Kiran disclosed that she was skeptical
about Aamir's character in the movie. She said, "I had told Aamir not to
do the role because the character was creepy. But he was so good that I had to
agree."
As Dangal was a huge hit in China, Aamir hopes Secret
Superstar is also released there. The actor told, "I'm very happy that
people in China liked Dangal. So I hope all my movies get released there."
