It has been stated that Sanjay Dutt and Farhan Akhtar coming together in Ajay Devgn home production as lead actors. The movie will be directed by Nishikant Kamat who has worked with Ajay in Drishyam and the movie expected to begin year end. Now we have got some exclusive news on the project and the characters that Dutt and Akhtar will be playing. The untitled movie is a remake of the Tamil black comedy-action-crime drama Jigarthanda (2014) which was written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj and is about an aspiring director who becomes famous after making a movie on a real life gangster but becomes like him in the end.

A source reveals, “Ajay Devgn and the film’s co-producer Abhinav Shukla had bought the rights of the film last year. At that time Nishikant was keen to cast Ajay in the role of the don and Arjun Kapoor in the role of the assistant director but things didn’t work out. Ajay won't be acting in the film at all but only be seen as a producer. Now Farhan has been approached to play the aspiring director and Sanjay the ruthless don. They have liked the story and concept and are now waiting for the final narration of the script by next month. It’s a stylish action drama with the right dose of comedy and emotions and will have both the actors in exciting get up and looks.”

The source further adds, “In the Tamil film, Karthik (played by Siddharth), an ambitious film director who is thrown out of a reality show on new filmmakers’ as his short film is disappointing. He believes he has the stuff to be a great director and plans a film based on the life and times of the notorious gangster Assault Sethu (played by Bobby Simha). Karthik makes his film and Sethu gets the shock of his life as Karthik has made his film a comedy – making Sethu a guy who achieves everything in life by crying. The film then shows how this incident changes both Karthik and Sethu’s lives and them too which they realize when they bump into each other in a final face-off. While the characters of the don and AD remain the same, Nishikant is making some script and screenplay changes for a more pan-Asian appeal.”

Jigarthanda was acclaimed as one of the most technically brilliant movies in Tamil Cinema and also dubbed into Telugu. The film completed 50 days at the box office and was a hit after it grossed Rs.35 crore as it was made against a moderate budget of Rs.10 crore.

Sanjay Dutt and Farhan Akhtar are presently busy with their releases Bhoomi and Lucknow Central. While Dutt will begin shooting for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 and also has Raj Kumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai Chale America, Farhan Akhtar has signed Mohit Suri’s next where he plays a boxer.
