Smriti Irani's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi: Limited to Just 20 Episodes?

Smriti Irani's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi: Limited to Just 20 Episodes?

Mumbai, India
- The eagerly anticipated return of "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" (KSBKBT) has sent waves of excitement and nostalgia across Indian households. With Smriti Irani reprising her iconic role as Tulsi Virani, fans are buzzing about what the new season holds. However, a significant question has emerged amidst the excitement: Will this comeback be a brief affair, potentially limited to just 20 episodes?

Recent reports suggest that the new season of "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," marking its 25th anniversary, might indeed be a limited series. While initial speculation hinted at a run of around 150 episodes, sources now indicate a much shorter format, possibly between 10 to 20 episodes. This news, while not officially confirmed by the producers, aligns with statements from producer Ekta Kapoor, who has emphasized a "limited episode" approach with a renewed purpose beyond mere nostalgia.

A Purpose-Driven Comeback, Not Just Nostalgia

Ekta Kapoor has been vocal about her initial hesitation to revive the show, citing the challenge of competing with the strong nostalgia associated with the original. However, she ultimately decided to bring it back with a clear objective: to tell impactful stories that resonate with contemporary audiences and address relevant social issues.

In a recent statement, Kapoor revealed that the new iteration will focus on topics such as parenting, sensitive social issues, and the delicate balance between concern and control within families. She highlighted that the original "Kyunki" wasn't just a daily soap but a catalyst for discussions on issues like domestic abuse and women's empowerment. The limited-episode format is intended to allow for focused storytelling that aims to "impact, entertain, probe thoughts, and most importantly, to inspire."

Smriti Irani's Return to the Small Screen

The return of Smriti Irani as Tulsi Virani is undoubtedly one of the biggest draws. The first look, showing her in a traditional maroon saree, instantly brought back memories for millions. Irani herself expressed that her return is "not just a step back into a role, but a return to a story that redefined Indian television and reshaped my own life."

Amar Upadhyay, who played the beloved Mihir Virani, has also begun shooting, adding to the excitement of seeing the iconic on-screen couple reunite after 25 years.

What to Expect from "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2"

The new season is scheduled to premiere on July 29th at 10:30 PM on Star Plus, its original time slot. It will also be available for streaming on JioHotstar. While the episode count remains a topic of discussion, the focus appears to be on a concise yet powerful narrative. Fans can anticipate a show that blends the beloved elements of the original with a modern sensibility, aiming to provide a proper closure to the audience after its abrupt ending in 2008.

Whether "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" runs for 20 episodes or slightly more, its return signifies a significant moment for Indian television, bringing back a cultural phenomenon with a renewed mission to engage and inspire.

Infotainment changes mindsets better than education, says Ekta Kapoor!

Having produced numerous TV shows focussed on women, Ekta Kapoor believes informing people about the issues in Indian society through the entertainment mediums works better them educating them about it.

"I personally think education is one and infotainments the other (aspect). If you educate people, they get bored. If you go out there and show them films, which are entertaining and then they like the characters and start relating to the story because of the characters, you land up doing a lot more to change mindsets than ever," Ekta said.

Maker of hit TV shows like "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii", "Kumkum Bhagya" and "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein", she also said that a film or a TV show "can't empower" but enlighten people.

"It can enlighten (viewers) about the wars that women are fighting. Empowerment comes from within. It comes from each one of us taking a stand against the various biases that we face and then saying no to it. The time has come when we should enlighten our viewers by showing films like 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'," she told.

Ekta is taking forward her pursuit of producing "bold and inspiring" tales about women by backing the upcoming movie "Lipstick Under My Burkha", which has gone through various hurdles because of the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) objections that it was too "lady oriented".

"When I heard about the film, I was pretty sure that it'll be something boring. But when I saw the film, I thought it's an entertaining and empowering film. It's very, very strong," Ekta said.
Directed by Alankrita Srivastava, the film, featuringKonkana Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur, revolves around four women and their sexual desires and freedom.

Such conversations must be prevalent in society, Ekta told.

"We don't talk about things that exist in women's lives. We have been told for years to brush things under the carpet. We have been told for years that things that belong to us like our own bodies are not meant for pleasure, they are only meant for reproduction," she told.

She told women are told that sacrifice should be in her DNA, her own choices should come last: family should be a priority not the women. "Until you start talking about what a woman goes through internally, you just see her fitting into the space that society has chosen for her. That's why stories like these need to be told," she further added.

"Lipstick Under My Burkha" has now been cleared for a theatrical release in India on July 21 by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT).

"‘Lipstick Under My Burkha' is the only film that I have seen in recent times which talks about women after the age of 50. Censorship is very big issue, but at the same time let's not forget the film and talk about that," Ekta told.

"I have huge respect for Nihalani (CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani) and I'm sure he has a thought process behind what he is doing. I have huge respect for the censor board and I am not contesting what they are doing," she told.

She said FCAT had asked them to do some minor cuts. "These were very, very minor cuts and no scene was removed. We are looking to present the film is 400-500 screens," she further added.

Asked how she thinks women are going to receive "Lipstick Under My Burkha", Ekta told, "With open arms," adding "India is so ready to accept the new Indian women that they will have no problems."

Sara Ali Khan chooses Ekta Kapoor over Karan Johar due to mom Amrita?

Two celeb kids, Jhanvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan were all set to be launched in Bollywood this year and that too by Karan Johar. But now only Jhanvi will be debuting under Karan's home banner and Sara will be debuting in Kedarnath directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ekta Kapoor.

As per a famous tabloid, Kareena Kapoor Khan wished to see Sara work with Karan first, but Amrita was adamant that her daughter will be debuting under Ekta's home banner as they both are close friends.

Amrita after her divorce with Saif Ali Khan went on to work in Ekta's show Kkavyanjali and also starred in her home production A Flying Jatt last year. Sara almost signed KJo's movie but Amrita pulled out of the deal and gave her dates to Ekta.

But trade experts disclosed that Sara might have lost a big chance of her big debut by working with Ekta first.

Did Amrita make the right decision of choosing Ekta over Karan for Sara's debut?

Meanwhile, Jhanvi might make her debut in Student of the Year 2 or Sairat's Hindi remake. Despite the big rivalry created between Sara and Jhanvi even before their debut, the striking beauties bond very well and are often snapped together.

Lately, when Sridevi was questioned about Jhanvi debuting in SOTY 2, she told, "Wait for the announcement, it'll come soon enough and aapko khud pata chal jayega."

Furthermore, Jhanvi might sign a three-film deal with Karan.

Lost confidence after films flopped, says Ekta Kapoor!

TV World’s queen Ekta Kapoor, who celebrated the success of her newest production "Half Girlfriend", tells at one point she had lost confidence in herself after her movies flopped one after another. And because of that, she was firstly not sure about producing "Half Girlfriend".

"With my production house, I lost confidence on myself when I gave five flop films in a row. My last hit film was with Mohit Suri in 2014 ('Ek Villain'). There was a time when I wasn't even sure whether I want to continue making films or not, but God has been kind, prayers have worked and film has done well," Ekta told at the success party here on Friday night.

"I would like to thank each of my team members for their hard work for this film," Ekta added, appreciating the efforts of director Mohit Suri and lead actors Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor.

Speaking about negative reviews from the critics for "Half Girlfriend", Ekta told, "When my TV soap 'Naagin' was launched, during that time, there were 500 stories that how this soap is the reason to malign creativity and entertainment factor on television. With this film also, critics felt that 'Half Girlfriend' is a melodrama but I am glad that masses accepted the film. More than money, I think acceptance from the audience is the biggest thing which I haven't experienced in the last three years."

"'Baahubali' is not a film, it's a sensation. This film doesn't belong to film categories. 'Baahubali' is the best thing to happen and we can refer to it as a film which has gone beyond expectations," she further added about Baahubali’s achievement.

Chetan Bhagat, the author of "Half Girlfriend", was also present at the party along with his wife.
Remarking on its performance and reception, Bhagat told, "Ultimately, audience is the king of box office and not the critics. Compared to past few films, it is the best performance of Arjun and Shraddha."

The box office success of "Half Girlfriend" has been a cause of great relief for even Arjun and Shraddha.

Present at the party here were Karan Johar, Ronit Roy, Rajkummar Rao, Tusshar Kapoor, Vikram Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt, Sushant Singh Rajput, Shamita Shetty, Mohit Suri, Udita Goswami, Mouni Roy, Anita Hassanandani, Divyanka Tripathi, Vivek Dahiya, Mona Singh, Karan Patel and Karishma Tanna.

Ekta Kapoor doesn’t know about investment in Sonam-Kareena starrer Veere Di Wedding!

Film Veere Di Wedding has been in the news ever since it was pronounced. The film will see Sonam Kapoor starring along Kareena Kapoor Khan. It will also stars Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania. The movie is being directed by Shashanka Ghosh and will be Sonam Kapoor's sister, Rhea Kapoor's first production endeavor.

The film was supposed to begin its shoot in 2016 but because of Kareena's pregnancy, the shooting had to be postponed. After that Kareena welcomed son Taimur Ali Khan and was on a maternity sabbatical.

After that, there was another controversy regarding the title of the film. There is another film titled Veerey Ki Wedding which stars Jimmy Sheirgill and debutante Diljott. Sonam's father Anil Kapoor wrote to the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPAA) stating that they had first registered the title. But, Veerey Ki Wedding had already acquired a trademark for their title.

When Ekta Kapoor, who is a co-producer of the film was questioned about Veere Di Wedding by a famous daily, Ekta told that she was unsure if she is investing in the film. She told, "At this moment, I don't even know if I am investing in Veere or any other movie. As a producer, I have decided to only invest in movies that will pull the audience out of their homes to the theatres. Rs 200 is a lot of money to demand [for tickets]. The content has to be bang on to bring in the bucks."

She further added, "It needs to be a profitable venture [for me]. Eventually, it's a business."

Ekta Kapoor encounters with two TV stalwarts!

The Queen of TV, Ekta Kapoor's reunion with her super powerful females, Smriti Irani and Sakshi Tanwar aka Tulsi and Parvati just got us tremendously nostalgic.

Lately Ekta posted a snap of herself with her Tulsi and Parvati in the frame.

She captioned it as, "Two stalwarts! D twains meet in Delhi."

90's kids will assuredly agree when we say, how every household was stuck to TV screens from 10pm-11pm on Star plus from Monday-Thursday just to religiously wacth Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, irrespective of what's happening in one's life.

This was the time when audiences get agitated on seeing a Mihir betrays Tulsi for Mandira or Pallavi trying to create troubles in the life of Parvati.

Out of the TV world, while Ekta has sustained her reputation of being the queen of Indain TV, Parvati aka Sakshi is creating Dangal in Bollywood and on the web front, while Tulsi who once ruled the TV world, has gone a long way of ruling the textile industry of the country.
