American pianist, singer-songwriter, and composer Billy Joel
set a record for maximum performances by a single artist at Madison Square
Garden with his 65th show Wednesday night, besting Elton John.
The landmark 65th performance at New York City's Madison
Square Garden venue was celebrated with a special banner-raising ceremony.
The 66-year-old "Piano Man" star became the first
artist to play 65 shows at the Manhattan arena, breaking a previous record set
by Elton John for performing the most headline concerts there, stated
Huffington Post.
The Piano Man was full of energy as he performed for a
feverish crowd of all ages in New York City for more than two hours. He sang
hits like "Uptown Girl," ''We Didn't Start the Fire," ''It's
Still Rock and Roll to Me" and "Only the Good Die Young."
The achievement was celebrated by hanging a banner from the
rafters, a tradition which honors the venue's heroes, joining another
celebratory flag which marks Joel's record for playing the most consecutive
performances at Madison Square Garden.
That record stands at 19.
During the show, Joel paid tribute to his longtime friend
Elton, who he has previously toured with, by singing his track "Goodbye
Yellow Brick Road".
