I don’t crave popularity, says Radhika Apte!

Radhika Apte has done both commercial and content-based cinema.  Now, in her career, she has reached a point where the web is obsessed with her presence. Well, she is enjoying the attention but she doesn’t aspire to be famous.

“I don’t really go chasing fame; I don’t crave popularity. I like my work being appreciated, but I don’t keep track of it. To be honest, and I get embarrassed about this a lot, sometimes I don’t really know what’s happening around me. I don’t want to be famous, I just want to work,” Radhika revealed to a daily.

Ask her, if she would say ‘yes’ to a project only based on its financial credibility, she revealed, “Yes, I will sign a film for the money. Because sometimes you don’t have the money to eat and you have to get work and maintain a lifestyle. Not just actors, I think everybody does that. No job on this planet is about 100 per cent satisfaction. You do some part of the job for money.”

Talking about the path to success she revealed, “I think you can’t get anywhere without hard work. Even if you are born with a silver spoon, you have to work hard. I mean you could be offered films on a platter, but if you don’t get up in the morning and learn your lines, it is not going to work. You have to give it your best shot and deliver a good performance. Otherwise, you are not going to make it. In a field like ours, I think luck also plays a big role. Certain people get an opportunity because they happen to be in the right place at the right time. It has no bearing on their talent. I don’t think we should look at it and feel bitter about it. That’s the way the cookie crumbles in all professions.”

Radhika Apte’s dig at Kangana Ranaut?

Radhika Apte, Kangana Ranaut

Bollywood actress Radhika Apte has become a well-known face in Bollywood due to her back-to-back movies and web series. In a media chat with a daily, she opened up on how when she started her career in 2010, she was hemmed in by stereotypes like that of not letting her play North Indian characters.

“Initially, when I started, I had a few issues. Like [people] constantly used to tell me that you can’t play a North Indian, because you are a Maharashtrian. And now, a North Indian is playing Laxmibai,” Radhika revealed to the leading daily. She also took a subtle dig at Kangana Ranaut as she will be playing the role of Rani Laxmibai in Manikarnika. “So, why is it the other way around that you have a problem with?” further added Radhika.

Explaining her stand on the same, she further added, “We’ve had North Indian characters play South Indian characters. But that’s good. That’s how it should be. Actors shouldn’t be restricted on the basis of where they come from, and [be] cast on that basis. Of course, there’s a lot of hard work that goes into preparing for such characters. For example, if I’m playing a Punjabi character, wouldn’t I work for two months to learn the language, and other little details of [being] a Punjabi?”

Fine, these 8 years in the industry has taught Radhika to be patient and not to complain. On this, she revealed, “Sometimes, it makes sense that directors want to cast someone who’s from that region. They might bring more to the table, because they belong to a specific area. So, you shouldn’t take things personally. A lot of times it happens that, when you don’t get a role, you say, ‘Why did I not get that role?’ Because that role was written for someone else, and you shouldn’t take such things personally. I’ve done a lot of roles for which I wasn’t the first choice — it went to someone else first — and I’ve got a lot of success like that.”

Radhika is presently featuring in Ghoul.

After Tannishtha Chatterjee walked out of Comedy Nights Bachao over racist remarks in the name of roast, here we have her Parched co-star Radhika speaking her mind on the controversy.

Talking at an event, the 31-year-old actress told, “I think jokes on colour or body shaming shouldn't be made. It's not funny to crack such jokes. Do you crack a joke on fair skin (people)? No right? So don't do it (joke on dark skin people). There has to be a limit.”

Tannishtha who was on the show for the promotion of her movie was subjected to jokes on dark skin and left the actress fuming. Subsequently, she also posted a post on Facebook and talked about the “blatant racist content” that was showered upon her.

Radhika Apte condemns journalist for interrogation on leaked intimate scene from Parched!

Actress Radhika Apte, who has been in the news ever since her intimate scene from Parched got leaked, lately lost her cool and lashed out at a journalist when he asked her about her leaked scene at an event lately.

A furious Radhika responded, ''My friend, I find your question very ridiculous. Controversies are made by people like you who watch and share the video. As an artist, if I am required to do a certain job, I will do it. If you ever come out of your cocoon and look at what people are doing abroad and the way they are not ashamed of their bodies, you would not have asked me this question. People who are ashamed of their own bodies, are curious about other's bodies. If you want to see a naked body tomorrow, watch yourself in the mirror rather than my clip and then we can talk about it!''

Radhika Apte says ‘I don't care a shit’ over her leaked intimate scenes with Adil Hussain!

Radhika Apte's intimate scene with Adil Hussain, from their forthcoming movie Parched, got leaked a couple of weeks ago and while there was much brouhaha about the sensational video, Radhika doesn't want to waste her time and energy talking about it as she doesn't give a 'shit' about what persons think.

When asked what her reaction was when she first got to know that the video has been leaked, she told, ''I didn't have a reaction, I don't care a shit. I care about the film, I don't care about what people think. I pity those who don't respect their bodies. I don't think it's such an important issue to spend so much energy talking about it. The film is more important and this is a pointless issue.''

Radhika further told, “I’m not scared of featuring in nude/semi-nude sequences in films. I have grown up watching global cinema and have travelled a lot to take all these things in my stride as an actress!”

“I have seen artistes in India and abroad appearing nude on-stage; why should I feel shy of my own body? I don’t feel so and as such, I don’t mind revealing it if the script so demands. As an actress, I use my body to perform. I didn’t mind appearing in nude sequences as I know how these sequences are filmed,” she t and added that she didn’t bother much about the ‘leaked’ sequences in the film.

Talking about the leaked footage, director Leena Yadav told, ''I don't give it importance, neither do any of us. It's a vicious circle you know they create a leak, then they get everyone to talk about it. Then somebody says they only leaked it because they wanted publicity so, I don't want to feed this system, which feeds itself.''

Produced by Ajay Devgn, Parched also stars Tannishtha Chatterjee and Surveen Chawla and is slated to release this weekend, in India.

Also the twist of the plot intrigued me as it was something that was not done before so I gave my nod for it without even reading the script.''

Radhika Apte's 'Phobia' is the first psychological thriller of this year!

Psychological thriller is one genre that hasn't been explored to the fullest in Hindi Film Industry. While there are horror movies made at certain frequency while thrillers too are churned out frequently, one can count only a handful of movies that step into the psychological space of an individual. Now this is what makes Phobia exciting as one waits to see what the team has to offer here.

"The setting up of stage so far has been quite interesting for Phobia," tells an insider, "Right from the series of teasers that were put together for the film to the theatrical promo that was unveiled, there has been a good momentum in buzz. This is a niche film and hence it was prudent that the promotional and marketing campaign was designed well."

No wonder, this Pawan Kripalani movie is standing out from the rest of the crowd due to promise of an innovative narrative ahead.

"Presence of Radhika Apte is giving the film further credibility," the insider adds, "She can get into a chic urban lady (Badlapur) and also turn into a village belle (Manjhi). For Phobia, she had to get the psyche element right. It is a very difficult part to play and she knows that all eyes are on her to perform."

With the Viki Rajani and Eros movie set to release on 27th May, one waits to see how Bollywood's First Psychological Thriller of 2016 plays out on the big screen.
