Cinematic Magic Awaits: Janhvi Kapoor in Talks for 'Tumbbad' Filmmaker Rahi Anil Barve's Next Monster Movie!

Janhvi Kapoor to Star in Rahi Anil Barve's Upcoming Creature Horror Venture: Everything We Know So Far!

Janhvi Kapoor to Star in Rahi Anil Barve's Upcoming Creature Horror Venture: Everything We Know So Far!

Janhvi Kapoor is pulling out all the stops to cement her position as one of the most versatile actors of her generation. Hot on the heels of her high-profile release Peddi, industry insiders have exclusively revealed that the actress is in advanced discussions to headline a high-concept, large-scale creature horror film.

The project has instantly set social media abuzz because of the visionary filmmaker attached to it: Rahi Anil Barve, the director behind the 2018 cult mythological-horror masterpiece Tumbbad.

A Bold Shift into Creature Feature Horror

While Hindi cinema has experienced a massive resurgence in the horror-comedy space over the last few years, pure creature features remain an under-explored and technically demanding territory. According to sources close to the development, this project is being envisioned on a grand cinematic scale.

The upcoming film is being backed by powerhouse production house Jio Studios, which has recently dominated the box office with its expanding roster of content.

"Janhvi Kapoor is actively exploring diverse genres and has shown immense interest in this creature horror script," a source revealed. "It is a never-seen-before avatar for Janhvi, demanding intensive preparation. Once the final paperwork is locked, she is expected to dive straight into acting workshops to grasp the complex, nuanced world Rahi Anil Barve is creating."

The Mastermind: Rahi Anil Barve's Track Record

Rahi Anil Barve famously redefined atmospheric and psychological horror in Indian cinema with Tumbbad. The film, which blended Maharashtrian folklore with terrifying visual storytelling, recently enjoyed a historic re-release in theatres, outperforming many original releases and establishing a massive modern fanbase.

Barve’s involvement guarantees that this creature horror project will steer clear of standard jump-scares and instead lean into rich world-building, heavy atmospheric tension, and stunning practical or visual effects.

Janhvi Kapoor's Evolving Filmography

This potential horror venture marks another tactical move by Janhvi Kapoor to balance commercial mass cinema with intense, performance-driven roles. Following a string of varied projects, she is steadily building a diverse filmography.

Recent & Upcoming Lineup

  • Peddi (June 2026): Her major pan-Indian commercial release alongside superstar Ram Charan, directed by Buchi Babu Sana.

  • The Creature Horror Project: Tentatively scheduled to go on floors later this year, assuming talks conclude successfully.

Production Timeline and What to Expect

While official plot details, the title, and the secondary cast are being guarded closely under lock and key, pre-production work is already underway. If everything falls into place smoothly, the makers are aiming to take the project to the floors by late 2026.

For Bollywood enthusiasts eagerly waiting to see the Hindi film industry branch out into high-budget monsters, folklore, and survival horror, a collaboration between Janhvi Kapoor's star power and Rahi Anil Barve’s dark imagination might just be the perfect cinematic recipe.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Review: Nostalgia, Sequins, and the Search for Sanskar!

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Review: Nostalgia, Sequins, and the Search for Sanskar!

Director Shashank Khaitan has always been the architect of modern Bollywood romance, giving us hits like Humpty Sharma and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. With Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (SSKTK), he attempts to bottle that signature Dharma Productions magic again, pairing Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in a sprawling, colourful festive drama.

The result is less a flawless romance and more a gorgeous wedding album where the photos are perfect, but the vows feel rehearsed.

The SSKTK Report Card: Where it Soars and Where it Stumbles

Category

 Assessment

  The Verdict

Star Power & Chemistry

A+

The only reason to buy the ticket. Varun Dhawan is back in his best form—charming, goofy, and utterly believable as the lovable mess, Sunny. His comic timing is flawless and he anchors the chaos. Janhvi Kapoor is vibrant and shares a credible, sparkling rapport with him, proving this pairing has potential beyond Bawaal.

Visuals & Music

A

SSKTK is an absolute spectacle. Everything is lavish, bright, and expensive—a true hallmark of Dharma Productions. The songs ("Panwaadi" is a standout) are instantly infectious and the scale ensures it feels like a big-screen event.

The Core Story (The 'Sanskar')

C-

This is where the film falters. The plot—two exes (Sunny and Tulsi) faking a relationship to win back their respective former partners (Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf)—is recycled. Khaitan leans too heavily on established tropes, resulting in a first half that feels fun but a second half that is rushed, predictable, and emotionally hollow. The attempts at social messaging are drowned out by the excessive glamour.

The Missing Heart of the Rom-Com

The true innovation in romantic comedy isn't new clothes; it's a new conflict. SSKTK spends too much time orchestrating misunderstandings and not enough time making us invest in Sunny and Tulsi's genuine connection.

The film operates on pure adrenaline and Varun Dhawan's sheer likability. He is the life support for a script that often runs on fumes. While supporting players Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf are competent, they are sidelined by the convoluted premise, preventing the "quadrangle" from ever feeling truly high-stakes.

Is it worth watching?

Yes, if you view it as a celebratory, guilt-free slice of classic Bollywood escapism. SSKTK succeeds as a highly polished, energetic family entertainer perfect for the holidays. Just keep your critical expectations low and enjoy the spectacle.

The Final Grade: A Solid, Yet Forgettable, Three-Star Wedding.

Shashank Khaitan Clears Air: Why Alia was Not in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari!

Shashank Khaitan Clears Air: Why Alia was Not in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari!

Myth Busted: Shashank Khaitan on Why Alia Bhatt's Casting in 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' Was Never on the Cards

The cinematic universe created by director ShashankKhaitan—characterized by vibrant romances, family drama, and the undeniable chemistry of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt—led to one of Bollywood’s most stubborn rumors: that Alia was the original choice for the female lead in 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' (SSKTK).

Given the runaway success of the Humpty Sharma and Badrinath Ki Dulhania films, the industry and fans alike were quick to assume the iconic trio would reunite for this latest project. However, Khaitan has finally offered a nuanced, business-minded perspective, effectively shattering the AliaBhatt casting myth and clarifying why Janhvi Kapoor was the destined Tulsi Kumari.

Myth vs. Reality: The Truth Behind the SSKTK Casting

The Myth: Alia Bhatt, being Shashank Khaitan's original muse and Varun Dhawan's perfect on-screen partner, was approached first to play 'Tulsi Kumari,' but declined, leading to Janhvi Kapoor replacing her.

The Reality: Shashank Khaitan confirmed that the role was never offered to Alia, not due to creative differences, but due to a clear professional reality.

"The film was always conceived as 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari'," Khaitan revealed. "I knew that Alia Bhatt was simply not free for the next two or three years. Her schedule was completely blocked, making it impossible to align with our production timelines. We are great friends and talk about ideas, but this particular role was never on her table."

This revelation underscores that the casting process for SSKTK was a logistical, forward-looking decision rather than a dramatic last-minute pivot. Khaitan and the producers recognized the need for a talented actress who could commit to the film’s schedule.

The New Pairing: Khaitan Builds the Janhvi Kapoor Legacy

By clarifying the Alia Bhatt casting truth, Khaitan shifts the focus onto his excitement for the new dynamic between Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor.

Khaitan, who previously directed Janhvi in her impactful debut Dhadak, explained his choice to bring her into the major commercial space: "I know Janhvi’s potential for comedy and commercial cinema, which hasn't been fully explored yet. This character and this film were built to showcase that side of her talent."

This move establishes a new director-actress collaboration in the Dharma camp, suggesting that Khaitan is actively moving beyond the 'Dulhania' template to forge fresh on-screen partnerships. The pairing of Varun's high-energy comedy with Janhvi's developing commercial charisma ensures that while the Shashank Khaitan universe feels familiar, the chemistry remains novel.

The transparency from the director finally clears the air, allowing audiences to anticipate the new film without the shadow of persistent casting speculation, and celebrate the arrival of the new Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor pairing.

From 'Wink Girl' to Background Extra: Netizens Upset Over Priya Prakash Varrier's Role!

From 'Wink Girl' to Background Extra: Netizens Upset Over Priya Prakash Varrier's Role

'Wink Girl' Priya Prakash Varrier as a Background Extra in Param Sundari? Netizens React, Say She Was a Better Fit for Janhvi's Role

The debate around Bollywood's casting choices has once again ignited, this time with the release of the film Param Sundari starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra. The film, which has already been under fire for its portrayal of Malayali culture, is now facing fresh criticism after a popular actress was spotted in a blink-and-miss role.

A viral video from the film's climax has been circulating on social media, showing "wink girl" Priya Prakash Varrier in a red-and-white saree, walking silently in the background behind Sidharth Malhotra. Her unexpected and minor appearance has shocked fans, leading to a massive online debate and raising questions about her career trajectory.

From Viral Sensation to Background Extra: A Shock for Fans

Priya Prakash Varrier became a national sensation overnight in 2018 with a single wink in the Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love. Her fame earned her the title of "national crush" and propelled her into the limelight, leading to lead roles in several films across different languages. However, her non-speaking role in Param Sundari has left her fans bewildered and disappointed.

On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, a flurry of reactions followed the viral clip. Many users expressed a sense of shock and sadness, with one fan commenting, "She deserves better. From viral sensation to background?" Others speculated that her role may have been a bigger one that was edited out in the final cut of the film.

The Priya Prakash Varrier vs. Janhvi Kapoor Debate

The most prominent reaction from netizens is the assertion that Priya Prakash Varrier would have been a more suitable choice for the lead role of a Malayali girl, which was played by Janhvi Kapoor.

  • Cultural Authenticity: The film has already been criticized by a segment of the audience, including Malayali influencers, for its clichéd portrayal of their culture and for Janhvi Kapoor's "incomprehensible" Malayalam diction. Netizens argue that casting a talented Malayali actor like Priya Prakash Varrier would have addressed this issue and brought more authenticity to the character.
  • Casting Choices: The debate has further fueled the ongoing discussion about Bollywood's preference for star kids over actors with a strong regional filmography and proven talent. Users have expressed frustration, stating that "She would have been better for taking up Janhvi Kapoor's role. I just can't stand Bollywood!"
  • Janhvi's Performance Under Scrutiny: While some audience reviews praise Janhvi's on-screen chemistry with Sidharth Malhotra, others find her performance and portrayal of the character to be underwhelming and lacking in depth, further strengthening the argument that a more culturally appropriate casting choice was needed.

Bollywood's Casting Conundrum

The controversy surrounding Priya Prakash Varrier's cameo in Param Sundari highlights a larger issue within the Hindi film industry. While it is a commercial decision for filmmakers to cast well-known names to ensure a wider reach, it often comes at the cost of cultural accuracy and opportunities for deserving talent from other regional industries.

For now, Priya Prakash Varrier has not yet commented on her appearance in the film. Her brief role, however, has unexpectedly stolen the spotlight and sparked a significant conversation online, reminding everyone that even a single frame can create a major buzz and lead to a crucial debate about representation and casting in Bollywood.

'Bijuria' is Back! Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Party Song Divides the Internet!

'Bijuria' is Back! Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Party Song Divides the Internet!

Bollywood's love affair with recreating classic hits is a trend that continues to dominate the music scene, and the latest addition to this list is the iconic 1999 track "Bijuria." Featured in the upcoming film Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, the new rendition, featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, has stirred up a storm of reactions online. As the song drops, fans and critics are weighing in on whether this modernized party number lives up to the nostalgia of the original.

A Nostalgic Throwback with a Modern Twist

The original "Bijuria," sung by the legendary Sonu Nigam, was a chartbuster from his album Mausam. It became an anthem for a generation, known for its unique tune and Nigam's powerful vocals. The remake for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari aims to bring that same energy to a new audience, with Tanishk Bagchi reimagining the music and Varun and Janhvi taking center stage.

The song’s teaser and subsequent release have sparked a mix of excitement and skepticism. Many netizens expressed their happiness at hearing Sonu Nigam's voice once again on a new track, highlighting that his enduring appeal is a major draw. A social media post featuring Varun Dhawan and Sonu Nigam grooving to the song's hookstep went viral, with fans praising the collaboration and giving a thumbs-up to the singer who, despite being over 50, "is still ruling hearts."

Netizens' Divided Opinions on the Remake

While the return of Sonu Nigam's voice is widely celebrated, the reception for the overall song and the lead pair's performance has been more varied.

  • Praise for Varun & Janhvi's Energy: Fans have lauded the on-screen chemistry and electrifying energy of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor. Their dance moves, choreographed by Piyush Bhagat and Shazia Samji, have been called "fabulous" and "fire" by many. The duo's magnetic stage presence is seen as a strong point of the new track, making it a potential dance floor hit.
  • The "Original is Gold" Sentiment: However, a significant portion of the audience remains unconvinced. The classic "remake vs. original" debate is in full swing, with many expressing that the new version lacks the soul of the 1999 hit. Comments on social media platforms highlight a sense of disappointment, with some users stating that Bollywood's over-reliance on old hits shows a lack of creativity. "Why can't they make simple songs which are shot like a daily life sequence which can also be romantic?" one Reddit user questioned.
  • Janhvi Kapoor's Performance Under Scrutiny: Janhvi Kapoor's acting and on-screen presence have also come under criticism. Some netizens feel that her expressions and overall performance in the song are generic, with a few even suggesting that a "talent black hole is being shoved down our throats." This sentiment reflects a recurring complaint about a lack of originality in her roles and a desire to see her in more diverse characters.

The Verdict: A Mixed Bag

The "Bijuria" remake from Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is a textbook example of a Bollywood recreation. It successfully leverages nostalgia by retaining Sonu Nigam's voice, which is a major positive. At the same time, it updates the sound and visuals to cater to modern audiences, with Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor delivering a high-energy performance.

However, the song highlights a broader concern among audiences about the lack of original content in Bollywood music. While it might be a hit at parties and get a lot of online traction, its ability to leave a lasting impression like its predecessor remains to be seen. The success of the film's music will ultimately depend on whether it can win over the skeptical segment of the audience that craves genuine artistry over recycled nostalgia.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan and starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf, is set to release on October 2, 2025.

Janhvi Kapoor to reveal about when dad caught her sneaking boy out of her window!

Janhvi Kapoor, an actress, recently revealed a comical account of how her father, Boney Kapoor, caught her smuggling a kid out of her room window. The actress recalled about how her father courted Sridevi and talked about a common habit of his.

Janhvi Kapoor spoke about an incident on a media channel where she tried to be sneaky but was eventually caught on video by her father. She spoke about passing by her previous house in Mumbai, which was the first property her late mother Sridevi had bought there.

Janhvi Kapoor claims that she once encouraged someone to jump out of the front door because she didn't want them to leave after breaking in through the front entry. She suggested they head out in her massive Lexus that was parked close by. The person did what she said, but her father confronted her after seeing the entire event on CCTV and asking what she was doing. He installed a grill outside her room's window to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Janhvi also shared an amusing anecdote: when she urged the youngster to jump out the window onto the car, she didn't realize her driver was inside. She refused to give the boy's identity.

She remembered her father, Boney Kapoor, telling her a story about how far he went to win her mother, Sridevi. She'd laughed and given him the impression that he'd won her over when Boney had gone to meet Sridevi and leaped out of a hotel window. When asked if Boney often shared this anecdote, Janhvi answered that he likes to reflect every night after 10 pm, especially when music stations start playing old tunes. He often glances at her and says, "You know, me and your mom...," thus it's turned into his favorite pastime.

It has connected with people, so that security is there. The cons, I think is that a large number of audiences must have seen the film in that content and there will be comparisons, but I think that our intention with the film is to do a take on it because it's a fun story. It's a fun world and this is our take on it. If that story happened in a completely different environment, not in South India, in North India, then what would it be like?"
