Actor Ranveer Singh is all set to star in a sports-based movie
for the first time with 1983 World Cup. The film is based on India's iconic win
at the Prudential Cup and the actor will be seen playing the role of the
winning captain Kapil Dev. Lately, the official pronouncement will be made in
the city.
At the event, the former the real-life champions from the
historic match will be honoured. Teammates namely Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath,
Kirti Azad, Roger Binny, SS Madanlal, Sandeep Patil, Balwinder Singh Sandhu,
Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Yashpal Sharma, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Valson are
expected to be a part of the event.
Kabir Khan is the director of the movie and he spoke about
Ranveer telling, "As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983
Cricket World Cup. I had no idea that from that day onwards cricket in India
will change forever."
He further added, "As a filmmaker, for me, the journey
to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian
team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s
great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see
no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script."
The movie is written by National Award-winning filmmaker
Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It is possible to go on floors early next year and
will be shot at the locations where the whole 1983 Prudential Cup tour took
place.
