Earlier, Pahlaj Nihalani was replaced as the CBFC Chief by
Prasoon Joshi who is a celebrated lyricist and also Padma Shri recipient. Apart
from that, the institution in itself underwent a revamp with many movie
personalities like Vidya Balan and TS Nagabharana becoming part of the board.
Vidya Balan who was present at an event lately was questioned
about the changes that has taken place ever since the change. Without revealing
much details, the National Award-winning actor told that the board members
recently had a meeting and she is happy that “all like-minded people are on the
board.”
She further added that when she was approached for the role,
she thought that if she rejected this she would perhaps lose an opportunity to
criticise any decision taken by the board.
“I thought if I don’t say yes to this, I’d lose the right to
criticise any decision ever taken by the CBFC. I thought I was ready to
shoulder the responsibility. I don’t want to say anything about what our
approach is going to be or what our decisions are going to be based on,” she told.
Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj who was also present at the event told
that he was happy and hopeful with this new change. “It feels good that Vidya
is there in the committee, and a person who is a poet is heading CBFC. I hope
he remains poetic in his procedures also. I am very hopeful. Prasoon is a
friend. I really love his work,” Vishal revealed.
Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra, Neil
Herbert, Vivek Agnihotri, Ramesh Patange, Vani Tripathi, Jeevitha Rajasekhar
and Mihir Bhuta are the other members in the board.
