Vijay Varma confesses about hiding his skin condition vitiligo in movies!

Vijay Varma, known for his roles in Pink, Mirzapur, and Gully Boy, is gearing up for his next project, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. In a recent interview, he discussed his vitiligo, noting that he only conceals it during film shooting to avoid drawing attention and keep the audience focused on his act. He also shared how it affected him personally. "I have never been spoken about loosely for my skin condition," Vijay specified. Vitiligo is a skin disorder marked by pigment loss and the emergence of white spots on the skin.

In a media interview, Vijay Varma addressed his vitiligo by saying, “I have covered it up for my movies because it just distracts, and I don’t want my audience to look at anything else except for what I want to show them, so that is the reason I hide it. But for all my public appearances, for all these years, I have never bothered to cover it up.” He also added that he sees today's audience as understanding and responsible. Varma added that he has not got any negative comments concerning his skin condition.

He also talked about how he managed with his disabilities in a workplace where physical appearance is closely examined. He emphasized that he does not consider it a major issue, but rather a cosmetic one that has no bearing on the core of one's being. Despite its exposure, he has decided not to make it a top priority.  "We make it a big deal because it is something which is out there, but I have never really made a big deal out of it," he revealed.

When asked if his skin condition had caused any complications throughout his 12 years in the field, Vijay Varma responded that it was an issue when hunting for work. He believed it would become an impediment. However, now that he has achieved success and established himself in his field, this is no longer an issue for him.

Vijay Varma stars in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack as Captain Devi Sharan, the pilot of Indian Airlines Flight 814, which was hijacked in 1999. The Netflix series, directed by Anubhav Sinha and starring Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, and Dia Mirza, will premiere today (August 29, 2024). It goes into great detail about the dramatic events that preceded the hijacking.
