Mita Vashisht is an accomplished actor, producer, and director who has worked on several movies, TV series, and documentaries. She worked with Bollywood's B-town stars for a long period, but she was also active in the Telugu and other film industries.
In an interview, she reportedly admitted that she had become a victim of the
casting couch.
In a number of Hindi movies, including Chandni, Dil Se, Ghulam, Taal, and Good
Luck Jerry, Mita Vashisht had small roles. The actress reminisced about her
days spent on the casting couch in the Telugu film business and said she loved
being called a theater artist.
In an interview with the media,
the seasoned actress revealed that "a Telugu film industry film producer
tried to force himself on me." She went on to explain that she received an
opportunity to play the lead in a Telugu director's film while she was
competing in the Chennai Film Festival.
She stated she had accepted his
offer of the work and that she would have to move in with him for two months.
She felt at first that the director was implying that she would have to go to
his house and get ready for the part because of his poor command of English.
But the moment he said it again, she got up and began to leave the room. She
continued, "I got out of there somehow, even though he tried to block my
way."
Mita stated in the same interview
that she had told filmmakers early in her career that she would not be
"going to sleep with them for films." She was turned down for many
movies due to her strong morals. Nevertheless, some decided to include her in
their movie after seeing it.
