Before Udta Punjab and 2 States, Alia Bhatt did an outstanding
job with her second outing - Highway. Imtiaz Ali's movie changed things
overnight for the star kid - she made an impeccable mark with her acting skills
and it also well-known the fact that she is no diva but an actor who can go all
out in terms of responsibly carrying a movie on her shoulders.
She played the character of Veera Tripathi - a city girl who
was unaware of the world outside her home is being kidnapped and then explores
the unexplored territories traveling through the highways of the country. From
Rajasthan to Himachal Pradesh to Punjab to Delhi to Haryana to Kashmir, Alia
shot in real locations and stood all rough and tough.
In a latest interview, she disclosed while shooting for the
Imtiaz Ali directorial that she had to pee in public because there were no
public toilets nearby. Not even once, the actor didn't complain even once - she
lived like a nomad.
In Imtiaz Ali's own words, "While shooting for the
film, Alia was like any other nomadic local. She roamed aimlessly on the
streets of Kaza in Himachal Pradesh, she lay down on the roads and ate at
dhabas on desolate roads. If she was not doing that she would be just soaking
in the sun and staring at the lush fields of Punjab. I realised there is a part
of her which is a nomad too."
In a previous interview, Alia had herself told, "We
kept shooting like nomads. We were on the road in a truck and we would just
stop where we saw good locations and just shoot if the light was great. It was
a guerrilla way of shooting and I had to pee in public places! I would pee on
the roads and joke that people will only get to see my back."
