Sohail Khan’s journey in Indian cinema is uniquely multi-faceted, transitioning fluidly behind and in front of the lens.

1. The Directorial Prodigy (1997–1999)

Instead of starting out as an actor, Sohail made his industry debut behind the camera. At just 26 years old, he directed the action-thriller Auzaar (1997) starring Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor. He quickly followed this with the mega-hit romantic comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), which earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Director and gave Indian cinema the timeless anthem "O O Jaane Jaana".

2. Transition to Acting & Production Powerhouse (2002–2016)

Sohail made his onscreen acting debut as a romantic lead in Maine Dil Tujhko Diya (2002), which he also wrote and directed. Over the years, he specialized in multi-starrer comedies and action dramas, delivering memorable performances in cult classics like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) and Fight Club - Members Only (2006). As a producer, his banner Sohail Khan Productions generated massive box-office collections with blockbusters like Partner (2007), Ready (2011), and Jai Ho (2014).

Sohail has been a staple face on Indian television, having judged consecutive seasons of Comedy Circus. He made a notable impact in regional cinema with the Telugu film Arjun Son of Vyjayanthi (2025) playing the antagonist Pathaan. He is making waves as a premier wildcard contestant in Prime Video's high-stakes reality show Alliance (2026), hosted by Kunal Kemmu. On the filmmaking front, he is currently directing and developing his anticipated comedy-caper My Punjabi Nikaah.

5 Interesting Facts About Sohail Khan

  1. The Unintentional Cult Hero of Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na: One of Sohail’s most beloved acting performances was entirely unplanned as a leading role. He and Arbaaz Khan made a special appearance as the rowdy but soft-hearted Cowboy brothers (Bagheere and Amit) in the Imran Khan debut vehicle, stealing the show in every scene they featured.

  2. A "Straight-Shooter" in Reality TV: Upon entering the 2026 reality series Alliance, Sohail transparently admitted his fear of early eviction, noting that coming from a family where loyalty is a way of life makes it incredibly hard for him to lie, manipulate, or play political games on screen.

  3. Avid Fitness Enthusiast: Like his brother Salman, Sohail is deeply committed to bodybuilding. He was instrumental in popularizing fitness and clean eating routines within the Khan household during the late 90s, often acting as a workout partner for his brothers.

  4. Massive Contributor to Commercial Music: As a director, Sohail has an exceptional ear for music. He gave prominent breaks to music directors and singers; his projects are single-handedly responsible for historic chartbusters like O O Jaane Jaana, Just Chill, and Character Dheela.

  5. Real Estate Savvy: Outside the film sets, Sohail manages a vast business portfolio in Mumbai real estate. He recently made headlines in the corporate entertainment circuit for executing high-value property transactions, including leasing a prime Bandra retail commercial spot for an estimated Rs 10.3 crore.

Salman Khan’s 'Shuddhi' with Sohail Khan?

As we all know, Shuddhi has been in the making and in talks since many years but looks like it has now hit a roadblock of sorts. Shuddhi was reported to be Karan Johar's dream project with Salman Khan in the lead role. But, as per media sources, Salman Khan's brother now seems to have registered the title.

When casting for Shuddhi initially kicked off, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan were slated to star in the movie. But, Hrithik soon opted out and the search ended with Salman Khan giving a nod to the movie which will be directed by director Karan Malhotra. But, Salman, who was supposed to co-produce Kesari with Karan Johar, opted out of the project later.

Among reports of movie being cancelled, producer Karan Johar had clarified that Shuddhi will unquestionably happen and he may get his students Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan to star in the same.

Now, as per media sources, that there is a high possibility of Sohail Khan making Shuddhi. If there is any truth to the matter, he may just cast brother Salman in the lead role. This means that despite opting out of Karan Johar's Shuddhi, Salman may still end up doing a movie titled by the same name but with his brother Sohail Khan instead.

Now wait and watch for its official announcement.

Salman Khan opens up about father’s permission for girlfriends at home!

Salim Khan, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan

Superstar Salman Khan is also amongst those few celebs who continue to remain unfiltered and are not bogged down by public clamor about them. In spite of all the professional success, it is his personal life and the impending 'nation wants to know' question of wedding which creates the maximum stir. By now, the actor has skilled the art of dodging those intruding questions.

But, on the sets of Dus Ka Dum, during one of the questions, Salman admitted that his father Salim Khan preferred them spending some quality time with the girlfriends in the home rather than in public spaces. During one of the segments, Salman asked celeb guests, "How many percents of Indians are scolded by policemen for romancing in public?" - as part of the game show. But before they could answer, Salman himself said that it is sad to see couples spending time in public space.

"These couples are helpless as there are around 8-10 people in a small house. These youngsters cannot afford to book a hotel as the society takes it in another way. My father gave me a clear-cut instruction when it came to girlfriends. He gave us the permission to spend time at home rather than roaming around the city," Salman revealed.

"The same instruction was applicable to my sisters as well. If they have any good man in their life, they should first tell their parents and not hide anything from them. He has given us the right to take the decision on whom to marry and whom not to marry," he further added.

Sohail Khan supports Salman's anti-war comment!

Superstar Salman Khan again sparked off a controversy with his statements on war during an interview held in the city. He specified, "People who order war should be asked to go to war themselves. Take this gun and go to war. (They will realise it) and it will get over in a day. They will tremble and shake and they will eventually take the route of dialogues and discussions."

This statement by the megastar did not go well with numerous and they started criticizing him for pitching for peace between two countries that is India and Pakistan. Numerous people started off a debate on some news channels and also on social media pages, in spite of being misquoted by some media houses.

But, Salman's younger brother Sohail Khan was in all support for him and told it was a common man's opinion. He told to a famous magazine, "A lot of importance is given to actors' comments on such issues. I am not sure if people from this industry have the knowledge to talk about politics with such depth. What Salman Bhai - or any actor for that matter - say, is his opinion as a common man, a mere civilian."

Sohail further included, "Ask people about the war, and anyone would say it's bad. That's exactly what he said as well. War anywhere, in any part of the world, be it Syria, India, Iraq, China, cannot be a good thing."

The actor-filmmaker agreed to Salman telling that war is indeed needless. He specified, "I wouldn't understand the psyche of anyone who says war is a good thing. Dialogue, debate, discussions have proven to go a long way in mending relations, without our jawans going to the front and losing lives. Sadly, we don't always know why these things happen and how they happen. Lack of knowledge from our side often downplays our intentions. We don't have the authority to say things or the right to stop things. So, all we can do is lament."

Speaking about a scene from the movie, Sohail further added, "There is a scene where I get recruited for the Army and Salman's character feels bad because he feels Army people lose their lives. I am told they are right in their own way, but I don't see how. We respect all soldiers who put their life on the line for us. We should do something to protect them too. Authorities should be questioned for sending them [to war]. Why should anyone have to lose their loved ones?"

Sohail concluded by dropping a question, "We all think about it. But when you voice it, there is a contradictory viewpoint. But isn't that the reason we make a film like 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' (2015) or 'Tubelight'?"
