Aishwarya Rai Bachchan feels honours to work with Mani Ratnam!

As we know, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has worked with the filmmaker Mani Ratnam again, since her movie in 1997, Iruvar. Now, Aishwarya is all set to essay the role of an antagonist in the adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan and as she gears up to work with her guru, Aishwarya shared her feelings about the same.

In a latest media chat, Aishwarya opened up about her forthcoming project with Mani Ratnam. The film has been the talk of the town since Aishwarya pronounced her association with it at Cannes 2019. Aishwarya told that she is really honoured and privileged to work with her guru again in the adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan. Aishwarya also said that she is looking forward to the collaboration again. Aishwarya's last film in South was with Rajinikanth’s Robot back in 2010.

Aishwarya revealed, “You all already know. I am working with Mani garu, my guru, in Ponniyin Selvan. It is my honour and privilege to work with him any and every time, throughout my lifetime as an actor. I am really looking forward to it.”

Earlier, there were reports that she will be working with director Mani Ratnam again for a multi-lingual movie based on the Tamil novel called Ponniyin Selvan. The movie will be a period drama and everybody is pretty happy to see them working together again.

About her role in the movie, as per a report in a daily, the Bollywood beauty will be essaying a negative role in the movie. She will play the role of Nandini in the movie who is the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar is the chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom in the novel.

A media source revealed to a daily that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's antagonist character in the movie is that of a mysterious, power-hungry woman who manipulates her husband so that she can plan the downfall of the Chola Empire. Her character wants the empire destructed because of the wrong things done to her.

Big B and Aishwarya unite for Mani Ratnam’s next film?

If rumours are to be believed, Aishwarya Rai has signed Mani Ratnam’s next period movie. As per a media reports, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has given the final nod to her first director Mani Ratnam and the movie is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel Ponniyin Selvan (The Son of Ponni). “It’s a big-budget historical drama, which is being planned on the lines of the Baahubali franchise. It’s likely to be a bilingual project and star several other big names from the South Indian film industry. Mani approached his muse Aishwarya for the female lead and she signed on the dotted line,” as per a daily.

While Mani Ratnam will make a pronouncement of the movie around the festival of Pongal, which falls on January 14, reports are widespread that the director is keen on getting Amitabh Bachchan on board and although Mani Ratnam has narrated the story to Sr. Bachchan, the latter is yet to confirm.

While the period drama narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman, who was crowned as Rajaraja Chola I during the 10th and 11th century, this film will have an ensemble cast and as per a media reports, “The book has five volumes, but the makers are planning to conceptualize it as three installments on screen and Mani has narrated the script to Amitji. He is taking his time to decide whether he would like to do it. A confirmation from his end is yet to come but he has liked the idea.”

If Amitabh Bachchan gives a nod, it will be fascinating to see Aishwarya and Amitabh on-screen together.

Aishwarya and Vikram to share screen again for Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan?

Filmamker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan has been in the news due to his next. A historical novel by author Kalki Krishnamurthy, it is the story of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the Chola king Rajaraja Chola I.  Seemingly, the book took three years to complete as Kalki had to visit Sri Lanka three times to collect information for it. On this novel, the filmmaker had also pronounced the project with popular stars Vijay, Vikram and Mahesh Babu. But, things did not happen as the project was getting too challenging.

But, news now has it that Mani is once again all geared up to give this one a try. Seemingly, Mani Ratnam is all set to rope in his preferred actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in this big endeavour along with Vikram, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu and Jayam Ravi. Amitabh Bachchan could also end up essaying the role of Sundara Chola in the movie.

Conjectures of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan essaying the role of a surrogate mother in film Jasmine: Story Of A Leased Womb was doing round in media. Aishwarya too had told that she was in talks with the writers of the movie, Siddharth and Garima. Aishwarya had revealed, “Our talks had stopped around February this year, but now, I will take the discussion further. Right now, I don’t know whether I’m doing it or not. I liked the concept, but asked them to make a few changes to the script.”

Recently, it has been stated that the actress has said no to the movie. A close source disclosed, “Aishwarya has turned down Jasmine. There were several loopholes in the script. Although Siddharth and Garima’s basic idea was strong, there were many problems with the story, which the actress had reportedly pointed out to the writer duo. After the corrections, they approached her with a fresh script, but Ash still felt she couldn’t relate to it. So, she politely informed the team that she won’t be able to do the film anymore.”

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan has started the shoot of his next movie, Anurag Basu’s Life in a Metro sequel. Abhishek took a sabbatical from movies for two years and his comeback of sorts, Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan did good business at the box office. Abhishek has been praised for his nuanced act in the movie. Besides the sequel of Life in a Metro, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have pronounced that they will be working together in Sarvesh Mewara’s Gulab Jamun.

Abhishek attended an event lately and spoke about the movie. He told that they want to work together in the film, but it will only go on floors next year. He spoke about Aishwarya’s professionalism and told that her devotion to her work is matchless.

He further added, “She has always been like that. Even when I worked with her at the start of my career, as a co-star, as a partner and then my wife. She is very focused about what she does as a professional and as a mother, as a daughter and as a daughter-in-law. She is 100% in everything I don’t know how she manages it.”

Celebrated actor Meryl Streep has sent her congratulations to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for this distinctive award. Meryl Streep wished all the honorees every success with the event. Not only Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but Janhvi Kapoor and Zoya Akhtar were also bestowed with an award at the ceremony that was held recently in the United States.

The Founding President of WIFT India specified, “Whether it is her extraordinary body of work or her charitable endeavours, Ms. Streep is an inspiration for all. In fact, the Meryl Streep Award is so special to WIFT that it has its own dedicated department.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has confirmed that her next film will be with husband Abhishek Bachchan. The film titled Gulab Jamun will go on floors soon. It will be directed by Sarvesh Mewara.

In a chat with a media source, Aishwarya Rai spoke about daughter Aaradhya, working with Bachchans and association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She answered a fan’s question about working with Shah Rukh Khan again. Aishwarya revealed, “When will I get cast with Shah Rukh Khan, I think a lot of those actors are quite involved in the casting of their movies, so ask them, they will know when they will choose to work with me.” Aishwarya has worked with Shah Rukh Khan in movies like Devdas, Josh and Mohabbatein.

About Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya revealed, “He is very charismatic, super-sharp and he is someone who achieves his target. What he has his eyes set on, he will get that done and for that, he works very hard and makes sure he achieves it. So, he’s truly an achiever as he’ll make it happen.”

Film Fanney Khan released in theatres on August 3, 2018. The movie is based on the concept of body shaming. In a media chat, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who essays the role of a successful musician in the movie, told that this is the first film of her that daughter Aaradhya has seen. She revealed that although she has seen her work on Television, it is the first film she sat through.

Aishwarya revealed, “Do you know Aaradhya saw her mother’s film for the first time? I mean, she had of course seen me on television and doing songs. But ‘Fanney Khan’ is my first film where she actually sat through the whole film. I think her smiling eyes said it all. She had actually seen me shoot a part of my song in ‘Fanney Khan’. So when she heard there was a screening, she expressed a wish to see the film with all her friends and their parents. So all her friends came with their parents and had a good time.”

She further revealed, “I was happy to let ‘Fanney Khan’ be the first film Aaradhya watches. It has a positive message for viewers of all ages and there’s nothing in it that children cannot watch. In any case, Aaradhya is constantly singing and dancing at home, sometimes to my songs, sometimes to her father’s and her grandfather’s songs. It’s a normal household. We’re trying to keep the atmosphere around Aaradhya as normal as possible.”

Big B joins Aishwarya-Abhishek Bachchan for Gulab Jamun?

After a long gap, real-life couple Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan will be starring in Anurag Kashyap's project Gulab Jamun. The film will be helmed by Sarvesh Mewara. While promoting her latest outing Fanney Khan also starring Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, in a chat with a daily, Aishwarya had verified the Gulab Jamun casting conjectures which had been rife since 2017. Aishwarya shared that the script of Gulab Jamun was beautiful and that Abhishek and she were the perfect fit for the movie.

As per media source, Amitabh Bachchan may join his son and daughter-in-law in Gulab Jamun. The trio was last seen in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj (2008). A source disclosed to a daily that talks between Anurag and Big B had initiated last year after he spoke to Aishwarya and Abhishek. Big B had suggested a few tweaks to the script. After Abhishek wrapped shooting for Manmarziyaan (directed by Anurag), the filmmaker reached out to Big B yet again with the reworked script. If things work out, he will be starring in Gulab Jamun but it is yet to be known if he will be essaying Abhishek or Aishwarya's father.

About getting trolled for always being by her daughter's side, Aishwarya told, "I react (when cameras come too close). If my arm is around Aaradhya, people will say the mother is very clingy. I hear all this when it is already a couple of days later so it is kind of over. I don’t let it define me. I don’t change how I take care of Aaradhya or how I define myself based on all of this. Judge me for it but I will love her, embrace her. She is my daughter."

She also specified, "If I see photographers are walking backward or tripping and falling on to other passengers, it can get chaotic. I will be protective to Aaradhya as a mother and I will be empathetic to others who are being inconvenienced. I will not say I am all for paparazzi culture but I feel bad for the photographers. These are faces you have seen for years and they need the picture, it is their livelihood. I know they will do it."

Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali have worked together in numerous flicks from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to Guzaarish. There has been conjecture about them working in other movies after that. It was reported that Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to make Bajirao Mastani with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. But, after their unpleasant breakup, the project happened with Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

In chat with a tabloid, Aishwarya was questioned about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali again. When questioned when she will say ‘YES’ to a Bhansali project, she revealed, “Bajirao Mastani also we were supposed to do together. He didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He didn’t get the Khilji for me; He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen. I would love to work together.”

She clarified, “The person he saw to play Khilji with me playing Padmavati did not happen. So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then you know…sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be.”
