Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar's home production Excel
Entertainment is all set to produce Akshay Kumar starrer Gold to
be directed by Reema Kagti. In the biopic, Akshay will be seen essaying the
role of Balbir Singh, an Indian Hockey player part of the team that won gold
medal at the Olympics 1948, 1952 and 1956.
There were rumors that Farhan Akhtar has been roped in to
play the parallel lead in the film, but he turned down the offer. Rumour has
it, he is not keen to play the second fiddle in the movie.
Speaking about it to a famous tabloid, a source specified,
"Farhan has played a lead in a biopic once before (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) and
he wouldn’t want to step away from the protagonist’s role in this film. It
could also be the fact that he is producing the film under his Excel
Entertainment banner."
After Farhan rejected the offer, the team of Gold has
approached Saqib Saleem for the role. The actor has not confirmed the offer
yet.
This is not the first time Farhan denied to play a parallel
lead. After opting out of Raees, Akhtar's role was given to Nawazuddin
Siddiqui.
