It seems, shooting Padmavati is not going to be
easy for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Since the beginning of the movie, it
is in the limelight. Be it the finalizing the star cast for the film
or news of clash between lead heroes Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh,
SLB's magnum opus is never out of the news.
Now as per the newest development, team Padmavati took off
to Jaipur a few days back for a month-long shoot at the Jaigarh fort. But,
things took an ugly turn today when protesters belonging from Karni Sena
disrupted the shoot and caused damage to equipment on the sets.
The Karni Sena, seemingly, is claiming that the movie
portrays Rani Padmavati in a bad light. The role is being played by Deepika
Padukone. According the pictures doing the rounds, protesters went berserk,
throwing shooting equipment and staging a violent protest. The issue exaggerated
to a point where Bhansali had to call the police. The shoot has been put on
hold for the moment.
Karni Sena is the same organization which protested against
Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar and did not allow the movie to
release in Rajasthan alleging that the makers were distorting history by
showing Jaipur princess Jodhaa as Akbar’s wife. They claimed that the two were
never wedded.
Earlier, SLB’s last film Bajirao Mastani also
faced the anger of the Peshwa community.
