Get Ready for a Laugh Riot: Abhishek, Aparshakti, and Varun Unite for Imtiaz Ali's "Side Heroes"!

"Side Heroes": Imtiaz Ali's Next Project Brings Together Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Varun Sharma

Imtiaz Ali is a name synonymous with soulful, often introspective, romantic dramas. But his latest venture, titled "Side Heroes," is set to surprise audiences with a heartwarming and hilarious ode to friendship. The film marks a significant and exciting collaboration, bringing together three of Bollywood's most talented and beloved "side heroes" — Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Varun Sharma — for the very first time.

While Imtiaz Ali is producing the film, the director's chair is being helmed by Ssanjay Tripaathy. The screenplay is written by Siddarth Sen and Pankaj Matta. The news, announced just ahead of Friendship Day, has generated immense buzz, promising a fresh and relatable story about a theme close to everyone's heart: the bonds of childhood friendship.

The Plot: A Nostalgic Tale of Friendship and Rediscovery

"Side Heroes" is described as a poignant yet comical story that follows three childhood buddies. After years of distance and silence, they reconnect at a reunion, embarking on a journey to rediscover the true meaning of happiness. The film will explore universal themes of dreams, love, memories, and life itself, all through a humorous and emotional lens.

This narrative setup is a perfect fit for the lead trio, known for their impeccable comedic timing and ability to portray genuine human emotions. The film is a departure from Imtiaz Ali's typical romantic sagas, hinting at a new creative direction for the acclaimed filmmaker as a producer.

The Dream Team: Abhishek, Aparshakti, and Varun

Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Varun Sharma have carved a niche for themselves in the industry, often stealing scenes and winning hearts with their powerful supporting roles.

  • Abhishek Banerjee: Fresh off his acclaimed performances in films like Stree and his recent digital ventures, Abhishek is celebrated for his versatility and intense, grounded portrayals.

  • Aparshakti Khurana: Known for his charming wit and natural humor, Aparshakti has a knack for making every character memorable, from his breakout role in Dangal to his more recent works.

  • Varun Sharma: The undisputed king of comic timing, Varun is best known for his iconic role as "Choocha" in the Fukrey franchise. His ability to evoke laughter is a guaranteed treat for audiences.

Putting this trio together is a stroke of genius, and fans are eagerly anticipating the on-screen camaraderie and "triple dose of rib-tickling entertainment" that they are sure to deliver.

What to Expect: Release Date and Production Details

Produced by Imtiaz Ali and Mahaveer Jain Films, "Side Heroes" is set to go on floors soon. Presented by Lyca Productions and Mahaveer Jain Films in association with Window Seat Films, the movie is expected to hit theaters by 2026, with a likely release on Friendship Day. This timeline gives a clear indication that a major production is underway, and more details, including a full-fledged trailer, are expected in the coming months.

"Side Heroes" is shaping up to be a heartwarming and hilarious cinematic experience that celebrates the essence of friendship. With a stellar cast and Imtiaz Ali's creative vision behind the scenes, this film has all the makings of a sleeper hit and a future classic.

The Royals (2025 Indian TV Series) - A Modern Royal Rom-Com!

The Royals (2025 Indian TV Series) - A Modern Royal Rom-Com!

"The Royals" is a Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama web series that premiered on Netflix on May 9, 2025. Created by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy, and directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, the 8-episode series offers a contemporary take on the lives of a financially struggling royal family in India.

Plot:

The narrative centers around the royal family of Morpur, whose fortunes have dwindled in modern times. Their ancestral palace, once a symbol of grandeur, is now a financial burden. An unexpected turn of events occurs when the young and somewhat entitled heir, Yuvaraj Aviraaj "Fizzy" Singh (Ishaan Khatter), reluctantly teams up with a determined and ambitious hospitality entrepreneur from Mumbai, Sophia Kanmani Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar).

Sophia proposes a unique business venture: to revive the Motibagh Palace as a luxury "Royal B&B," allowing commoners to experience royal life firsthand and providing the much-needed income for the family. This collaboration brings together two contrasting worlds – the traditional opulence of royalty and the fast-paced, pragmatic world of a startup.

As Fizzy and Sophia work together, their initial clashes due to their starkly different backgrounds gradually give way to an undeniable romantic connection. However, their budding romance is complicated by their individual pasts, with the return of Sophia's ex, Kunal (Udit Arora), and Fizzy's ex, Ayesha (Nora Fatehi).

The series also explores the dynamics within the royal family, including the matriarch Rajmata Maji Saheba Bhagyashree Devi (Zeenat Aman), Fizzy's mother Maharani Padmaja "Paddy" Singh (Sakshi Tanwar) who is grappling with the loss of her husband and the family's financial woes, and his siblings Yuvaraj Digvijay "Diggy" Singh (Vihaan Samat) and Yuvarani Divyaranjini "Jinnie" Singh (Kavya Trehan). The traditional expectations for a royal marriage to secure their future also add another layer of conflict.

Release and Reception:

"The Royals" premiered on Netflix on May 9, 2025. The series has received mixed reviews from critics. While the production design and the chemistry between the lead actors, Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar, have been praised, the writing and narrative depth have faced criticism for lacking originality and emotional resonance. Some reviews noted the series as a "fun rom-com" with a blend of Bollywood elements and a period-drama sensibility, while others found it creatively lacking despite its talented cast.

Soundtrack:

The soundtrack for "The Royals" was released on May 5, 2025, and features a recreated version of the iconic song "Tu Tu Hai Wahi" from the 1982 film Yeh Vaada Raha, sung by various artists.

"The Royals" offers a light-hearted and visually appealing take on the collision of traditional royalty and modern entrepreneurship, with a central romantic track playing out against the backdrop of palace intrigue and family dynamics.
