Diwali 2026 Just Got Bigger: Ranbir Kapoor’s Epic Face-Off Against Himself in Ramayana!

The anticipation for Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus, Ramayana, has reached a fever pitch. As of April 2026, following the release of the film’s first teaser, Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor has officially confirmed that he will be taking on a double role in this mythological epic.

While the world was already buzzing about his portrayal of Lord Ram, the revelation that he will also play Lord Parshuram—another powerful avatar of Lord Vishnu—has sent social media into a frenzy.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Divine Double Role: Lord Ram & Parshuram

In a recent interaction following the "Rama" glimpse reveal on April 2, Ranbir shared his excitement about playing two distinct incarnations of Vishnu.

"Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Ram is one, and Lord Parshuram was an avatar before Him. To get the opportunity to play them both was fantastic," Ranbir stated.

1. Differentiating the Two Avatars

Ranbir revealed that he spent over a year preparing for these roles, focusing on the spiritual and emotional core of each character rather than just physical changes.

  • Lord Ram: Portrayed with "simplicity and purity," representing Maryada Purushottama—the ideal man of dignity and restraint.

  • Lord Parshuram: Described as a "fierce and unrecognizable" look. In the epic, Parshuram confronts Ram after the breaking of Shiva’s bow (Pinaka). This face-off is expected to be one of the cinematic highlights of Part One.

The 'Ramayana' Teaser: A Visual Marvel

The teaser, titled Rama, was unveiled on Hanuman Jayanti and has already clocked record-breaking views. It offers a glimpse into a world crafted over seven years with a reported budget exceeding $100 million (₹4,000+ crore).

Key Highlights from the Teaser:

  • Grand Visuals: From the majestic palaces of Ayodhya to the dense forests of the Vanvas, the VFX (by DNEG) is being hailed as world-class.

  • The "Axe" Moment: Fans spotted a sequence where Ram catches a large golden axe—a subtle nod to his encounter with Parshuram.

  • The Ensemble Cast: While the focus is on Ranbir, the teaser also hinted at Sai Pallavi as Sita and a brief, spine-chilling glimpse of Yash as Ravana.

Why This Double Role is a Game-Changer

This marks Ranbir’s second double role after Shamshera (2022). By playing both the sixth (Parshuram) and seventh (Ram) avatars of Vishnu, Ranbir is tasked with a unique acting challenge: portraying the transition of divine energy from one form to another.

The film is being produced by Namit Malhotra (Prime Focus Studios) and Yash (Monster Mind Creations), with the goal of making it India's most significant global cinematic export.

Release Date & Strategy

  • Part One: Confirmed for a worldwide release on Diwali 2026.

  • Part Two: Scheduled to follow in Diwali 2027, focusing on the climactic battle in Lanka.
