The John Wick series continues to be popular. Contrary to
early speculation that the movie will be the last chapter for Keanu Reeves'
main character, Lionsgate has officially released John Wick: Chapter 5. In
addition to the primary sequel, the studio has confirmed many spin-offs,
including an animated series, a high-end video game, and a project headed by
Donnie Yen.
At Lionsgate's major CinemaCon event, held at the Caesars Palace Colosseum in
Las Vegas, the announcement was made. The studio revealed that Keanu Reeves
would reprise his role as John Wick and that veteran director Chad Stahelski
will return to both direct and produce the film. Producers Basil Iwanyk and
Erica Lee of Thunder Road will also be back.
The previous movie in the series, John Wick: Chapter 4, was a big box office success, earning over $440 million worldwide. The franchise has made about $1 billion from the four films, all of which have performed noticeably better than their predecessors.
In addition to John Wick 5, the universe continues to expand with a number of spin-offs. Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, is scheduled for release on June 6, while Donnie Yen will direct and feature in a spinoff based on his character, Caine, with production starting this summer. The brand has also entered the television market with The Continental: From the World of John Wick, available on Peacock and Amazon Prime. Stahelski and Reeves are also executive producers of John Wick: Under the High Table, a brand-new television show.
Lionsgate is making the most of the brand outside of movies
and TV shows with a highly anticipated AAA video game in production and an
immersive event in Las Vegas with a John Wick theme.
Despite Keanu Reeves's earlier declaration that he intended for John Wick's
story to conclude with Chapter 4, Lionsgate appears dedicated to preserving the
series. New initiatives in a variety of media will contribute to the ongoing
growth of the John Wick world. Fans are now anticipating the famous assassin's
next move.
