Hamari Adhuri Kahani’s soundtrack is yet another instance of Quality winning over Quantity.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani’s soundtrack is yet another instance of Quality winning over Quantity.

Release Date : 12 June 2015
Banner : Vishesh Films, Fox Star Studios
Producer : Mukesh Bhatt
Director : Mohit Suri
Cast : Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, Rajkummar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapur
Music Director : Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon, Ami Mishra
Lyricist : Sayeed Quadri, Rashmi Virag, Kunaal Varmaa
Genre : Drama

Again Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan come together onscreen for the third time in Mohit Suri directed Hamari Adhuri Kahani which incidentally is supposed to be based on the true life love story of Director Mahesh Bhatt’s parents. It goes without telling that there is quite a bit of hopes from the music of this movie since one expects nothing but the best from Vishesh Films, particularly in the music department. Director Mohit Suri has always showed a great musical sense, one can expect a musical bonanza in the offing! Musical credits have been shared between Composers Jeet Ganguly and Mithoon and Ami Mishra whereas the lyrics have been provided Rashmi Virag, Sayeed Quadri and Kunal Vermaa. Astonishingly enough, the album is a very short one with only four tracks in it and coming from Vishesh Films, it surely looks to be an exception.

The album begins with title song Hamari Adhuri Kahani opens the album and by the way comes in two versions in the album. The first version is sung by Golden Boy Arijit and he does not let us down as usual. Arijit’s vocals manage to convey the poignancy in Rashmi Virag’s lyrics strikingly and one cannot help but feel for the emotional trauma of the lead characters in the movie. Jeet’s composition is first rate and the fact that the arrangement (piano, flute and the violin), in itself, speaks to the listener is the Composer’s biggest success apart from the excellent crescendo of course! Composer Jeet manages to spring another surprise on you, this time around with his vocals, in the second version of the track. Though this track might not be on par with the composer-singer’s other previous super hit musical collaborations, this is a song which apart from being a stunning composition, blends in with the film impeccably.

In the next song Mithoon comes in with Humnava, a soothing melody which takes its time to grow on the listener. He chooses Papon for vocalizing this track which proves to be a masterstroke indeed since this slow yet appealing track, needed a singer of Papon’s caliber to lift it to a different level altogether. Sayeed Quadri’s verses fit in well with the mood and setting of the track and Papon does total justice to both the lyrics and the music.

In the next song, composer Ami Mishra makes a decent debut in Hindi films with Hasi Ban Gaye which also comes in two versions in the soundtrack. The first version has been rendered by Mishra himself and the composer-singer does a suitable job behind the mike though the nasal twang is a slight put-off. The composition is a pleasing melody and is quite appealing. Kunaal Vermaa’s lyrics are simple and sweet yet touching and heart-warming. The second version is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and the lady brings it on herself to lift this tune to greater heights with her lilting vocals. And she does that brilliantly with the result that despite the shortcomings of the male version, the female version wins you over and makes this track yet another winner from this album.

The last track Yeh Kaisi Jagah sees composer Jeet Ganguly trying a little bit of fusion with a largely western arrangement interspersed with semi-classical male background vocals with pleasing results. As has been the norm in this album, the singer is again the USP of this track with Deepali Sathe bringing in the much needed freshness to this somber melody and also, lest we forget, the uncredited male background vocalist who also makes an impression with his expertise over the classical bit.

Overall, the soundtrack of Hamari Adhuri Kahani is yet another instance of Quality winning over Quantity. Though the album does put you in a thoughtful mood with all the songs being quite high on the emotional measure, it still is an album which surely deserves a place on chartbuster. The songs like Hamari Adhuri Kahaani and Hasi Ban Gaye are tuneful and melodious.

Vidya Balan is playing an abused wife in her next!

Gifted actress Vidya Balan has been known to take on challenging and hard hitting roles. She wowed viewers by portraying a pregnant woman in search of her husband in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani, and will now essay the role of a victim of domestic abuse in Mohit Suri's Hamari Adhuri Kahani. The movie features Rajkummar Rao as her husband and Emraan Hashmi as her lover.

For most actresses, playing a victim of abuse can be physically and emotionally tiring. But surprisingly, Vidya says that for the first time, a role did not drain her emotionally. She tells that the credit for this goes completely to her director Mohit Suri. He would give her both time and space after she would perform an intense scene, as he understood that it would take her time to come out of her character. Vidya also opened up about the criticism she has received in the past for her weight. She tells that she had a lot of body image issues in the past but has emerged stronger now. Film Hamari Adhuri Kahani, produced by Mahesh and Vikram Bhatt releases on June 12, 2015

Vidya Balan’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani with Emraan Hashmi!

Vidya Balan is presently hard at work on Hamari Adhuri Kahani directed by Mohit Suri. The romantic drama also stars Emraan Hashmi, and Rajkummar Rao. Written by Mahesh Bhatt, supposedly based on real life, the movie is set to release in June next year.

It seems that it was Vidya and only Vidya for the starring role in the movie tells director Mohit Suri and star Emraan Hashmi. In fact, we heard that the Mr. Bhatt wrote the role with her in mind and he to say the movie would only be done with her in the lead role.

Talking about the movie in a previously interview, Vidya told, “All I can say is that it is an intense love story and I haven’t done a love story after Parineeta.”

Emraan Hashmi was actually not so sure about doing the movie: he said journalists, “It’s a very interesting film. It’s my first out-and-out love story. I haven’t played such a character. It is a space I was a bit cautious to experiment with till I heard the script from Mahesh Bhatt.”

In the end, he determined to give it the green light and tells, “It is a very heartfelt and touching story.”

It seems that Rajkummar Rao’s part is just a special appearance but nevertheless it was a very challenging one, “I am doing a special appearance in the film. Bhatt sir (Mahesh Bhatt) really wanted me to play this part and I love him too much, can’t say ‘no’ to him. It’s a really challenging part for me, so that’s also the reason I thought I should do this special appearance because it’s going to challenge me as an actor.”

Mohit Suri has revealed a bit about the story telling, “The best love stories are never the complete ones. That’s Humari Adhuri Kahani.”

Mahesh Bhatt agreed and before the start of the shoot in October posted, “Humari Adhuri Kahani …Real Love Stories Never Have Endings. This film which has flowered from our hearts will live forever!”
