Following the popularity of Aarya, Sushmita Sen will next be seen in the new series Taali, which will premiere on JioCinema on August 15, portraying the audacious and hitherto unseen role of Shreegauri Sawant. On Saturday, the series' teaser was published, providing a brief glimpse inside Shreegauri Sawant's life.

The teaser for Sushmita Sen's new series Taali, which is based on the life of transgender campaigner Shreegauri Sawant, was just released on her Instagram reel. The actress is first seen in the teaser staring in the mirror while donning a sari and adjusting her large reddish-maroon bindi. As the camera pans, a picture of the well-known vocalist Usha Uthup can be seen on her cabinet. Following this brief yet daring shot, members of the transgender community are seen stroking Sushmita Sen's portrayal of Shreegauri Sawant's feet. With the caption "From gaali (abuse) to taali (applause), the journey of Shreegauri Sawant," the actress posted the teaser on her Instagram account. describing Shreegauri Sawant's struggle for India's third gender.

Shreegauri Sawant: who was he?
She was nurtured by her grandmother after her mother passed away when she was just 7 years old. Shreegauri Sawant was born in Pune. At the age of 14 or 15, she left her family to avoid disappointing her police officer father. Gauri established the Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust in the year 2000. This non-profit organisation advocates for safe sex and offers support to transgender individuals. She was the first transgender person to petition the Supreme Court of India for transgender people's adoption rights in 2014. In 2008, Gauri also took in a girl named Gayatri whose mother had died of AIDS.

Bollywood’s alleged lovebirds Sushmita Sen and Ritik Bhasin have allegedly been in an on-off relationship for quite a sometimes. There were stories lately about Sushmita Sen calling it quits with so-called boyfriend Ritik Bhasin. But, a leading tabloid reports that all is well between the couple.

Last week, at Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan’s wedding reception, the couple arrived hand in hand. They did not pose for photos together, but after the reception headed home in Sushmita’s car. “The two posed for pictures separately but exited together in Sushmita’s car,” a source revealed a tabloid.

Hindi film industry is not based on an artiste's look and age but on talent, says Sushmita Sen!

Beautiful actress and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen tells that nowadays, the Hindi film industry is not based on an artiste's look and age but on talent. She believes that age only adds experience to the actor's profession.

"No, I don't agree with that, not today...if you had asked me this when I joined the film industry, I would have said a resounding yes! but at this stage, when you look at an 'English Vinglish', you look at Sridevi, you think wow," Sushmita said in an e-mail, when asked if she thinks Indian film industry is based on looks and age and not on an actor's talent. 

The actress also talked about Hollywood veteran Meryl Streep and told that she has essayed some incredible parts, even lead a film all through her career at different ages. 

"She is someone I deeply admire...And now comes our very own Sridevi...I mean I give you just that one example because it's a success," she further added.

The 41-year-old said that age adds experience onto the screen space.

"(It) goes to show that age only adds to the experience and to actually bringing alive more of that experience onto the screen," told Sushmita, who has walked the runway for designer Sashi Vangapalli at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017.

Sushmita, who is a single mother to daughters Renee Sen and Alisah Sen, tells that it would be tragedy if an actor's career gets over at the age of 25. 

"It is a beautiful thing to grow and then to depict that in cinema...So I, disagree with that... We are definitely headed in the right direction and there is a roll and a script for everyone...We just need the right directors to come up with them," she further added.
