“It's a feeling of homecoming”, says Konkona Sen Sharma on working on sequel of Mumbai Diaries 2!

A number of films, including Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, and Page 3, elevated actress Konkona Sen Sharma to the top of the Indian film business. Due to the type of movies she both stars in and directs, the actress who has been working in Bollywood and multiple languages is frequently listed as one of the top actors in modern parallel cinema. Konkona is now preparing for the debut of Mumbai Diaries' second season.

Aside from being a top-notch performer, Konkona Sen Sharma is also a successful director with a number of well-regarded and successful works to her name, including Lust Stories 2 and A Death In The Gunj. The actress talked about her experience filming it as she waits impatiently for the premiere of her upcoming online program, which is scheduled to go live on October 6. It was her first time working on a film sequel, and Konkona told a media outlet that it was fantastic. The Lipstick Under My Burkha actress revealed, “This is the first time I'm working on a sequel of a show which has actually been really lovely. It's a feeling of homecoming especially as you're just building on the character and not starting fresh.”

Speaking about filming for her series's sensitive female character who is attempting to help Mumbai survive, she revealed, “As we had something to fall back on, it was great fun shooting it too. Not just getting back into that zone of the show or the character, but you're going deeper into it which was quite a wonderful experience.”

The creators of Mumbai Diaries attempted to depict the challenges encountered by the personnel at Bombay General Hospital following the city's terrorist assaults in 2008 with the first season of the show, which was published back in 2021. After two years, the medical drama's second season's teaser was released. Along with Konkona, other actors who appear in the Nikkhil Advani-directed series include Shreya Dhanwantary, Natasha Bharadwaj, Satyajeet Dubey, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, and Ridhi Dogra.

Bhumi and Konkona’s Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare chooses OTT!

As we all know that Bhumi Pednekar and Konkona Sen Sharma are essaying siblings first time in Alankrita Shrivastava movie Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, that deals with several social taboos and challenges them at large.

Amid lockdown, the TV mogul Ekta Kapoor has been in discussion with some of the prominent OTT platforms to release Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare. A media source reveals, "Negotiations are on at this point and they will settle for the best deal they get. Bhumi and Konkona's film will definitely be releasing online but the team is currently just figuring out which digital giant they will sell it to. It all depends on the money each has to offer. Netflix and Amazon Prime are both in contention."

Other media source adds, "The film is mounted on a very small budget, like Alankrita's last film Lipstick Under My Burkha. This is again a very socially relevant film, which caters to a particular target audience, which is also similar to what the OTT giants cater to. So it's a good move on the makers' part to sell it off. Theatres aren't showing any signs of reopening in the next two months at least and if all was well, Balaji had initially planned to release Bhumi and Konkona's movie around May itself."

Konkona Sen Sharma to direct Kolkata’s cabaret clubs!

Konkona Sen Sharma is taking her directorial skills to the web for a series about Arati Das, aka Misss Shefali, who was the jaan of Kolkata’s cabaret clubs in the 60s and 70s.

Koko’s show will chronicle the life of the Bengali legend while also telling the story of the city’s political landscape during that period. The script will be adapted from Arati’s book Sandhya Raater Shefali, and will focus on how she came from a poor family to rule a cabaret scene that was struggling with most European dancers leaving the newly independent India. Kolkata has a special place in Konkona’s heart, so I expect this one to be an ode to the city she grew up in.

Konkona Sen Sharma opens up about gender equality and feminism!

Bollywood actress Konkona Sen Sharma is one of the actors who is outspoken. She has spoken about gender equality, feminism and more at various occasions and her quotes are worth reading.

Lately, during a communication with a charitable organisation named OXFAM India, Konkona was questioned if she is someone who has strongly practiced in raising a feminist or gender-sensitive child. To which she specified, "I am very aware of this and it troubles me I see that there are so many everyday instances of gender inequality that happen around him. In our neighbourhood, kids play football in the evening and once I had a conversation with my son about the fact that it was boys who were playing and the girls were nowhere to be seen. I feel it is important to have such conversations and make your child aware of gender because in so many un-thinking ways they can learn about patriarchy."

She further revealed, "Once I remember, he asked if he could wear a nail polish. I didn’t tell him that boys don’t wear nail polish. I explained that make-up was not meant for children and he could decide for himself when he grew up. But, then he also learnt from the world that boys don’t wear pink. I kept explaining that colour doesn’t matter but sometimes children are influenced more my other kids than parents. It is hard, for parents alone, to counter the existing patriarchy. The community, society and school mould a child’s perspective towards gender. There are gender differences but they need to be celebrated and integrated."

No films should be banned at all, says Konkona Sen Sharma!

Bollywood star Konkona Sen Sharma is disappointed with the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to deny a certificate to her movie "Lipstick Under My Burkha".

She feels the CBFC should just give a certificate, and not ban movies at all.

"I am really fed up of the fact that these kinds of films are banned and so many other kinds of films are not. No films should be banned at all," Konkona told. 

The movie, also starring Ratna Pathak Shah, chronicles the secret lives of four women of different ages in a small town in India as they search for different kinds of freedom.

"Lipstick Under My Burkha" has been deemed too "lady oriented" in content and according to the censor board, it is laced with sexual scenes and abusive words.

Konkona further added, "I think the CBFC should just give a certificate. It's important that we watch all kinds of films and it's important that we watch films where women talk about themselves."

The actress talked about the movie on show "March on Women", which will air on CNN-News18 on Saturday. 

"Lipstick Under My Burkha" won a Gender Equality Award at the Mumbai Film Festival last year and recently won the Audience Award at the Glasgow Film Festival.
