Konkona Sen Sharma is taking her directorial skills to the
web for a series about Arati Das, aka Misss Shefali, who was the jaan of
Kolkata’s cabaret clubs in the 60s and 70s.
Koko’s show will chronicle the life of the Bengali legend
while also telling the story of the city’s political landscape during that
period. The script will be adapted from Arati’s book Sandhya Raater Shefali,
and will focus on how she came from a poor family to rule a cabaret scene that
was struggling with most European dancers leaving the newly independent India.
Kolkata has a special place in Konkona’s heart, so I expect this one to be an
ode to the city she grew up in.
