Akshay Kumar essays hockey player Balbir Singh in a biopic titled Gold!

Earlier, Akshay Kumar pronounced his movie Gold on Twitter. He revealed the poster of the movie with the caption, "Set in 1948, the historic story of India's first Olympic medal as a free nation, #GOLD coming to you on 15th August, 2018!"

Directed by Reema Kagti, the movie is produced by Excel Entertainment and will be released on August 15, 2018. Now, as per a close source, Akshay will be essaying the role of hockey legend Balbir Singh in the movie!

A source disclosed, "Though the world is aware of Dhyan Chand, there is another hockey hero who has ironically not been talked about in the same breath. But, the fact is that Balbir Singh was the hero of the gold campaign that India enjoyed not just in 1948 but also 1952 and 1956 Olympics."

The film is set in 1948 when Indian won its first ever Olympic gold medal as a free nation.

Akshay has put the excitement to end and has pronounced his next movie, titled Gold. The film is directed by Reema Kagti and is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and releases on August 15, 2018.
