Taapsee Pannu brings to life Mithali Raj's illustrious cricket career in Shabaash Mithu!

About the biopic on cricketers, as we all know that Anushka Sharma will be seen as Jhulan Goswami in Chakda Xpress, while Taapsee Pannu is bringing to life Mithali Raj's illustrious cricket career in Shabaash Mithu.

The makers of Shabaash Mithu dropped a teaser recently featuring Taapsee in Mithali's shoes. The brief 1-minute teaser show the actress stepping out on to the field amid a roaring sound of the viewers in a stadium. Called as the most consistent player in women's cricket, Mithali's story is all things insipirational.

Sharing the teaser of Shabaash Mithu on social media, Taapsee Pannu tweeted, "In this Gentlemen’s sport, she did not bother to rewrite history ….. instead she created HER STORY! #AbKhelBadlega #ShabaashMithu Coming soon! #BreakTheBias #ShabaashMithu #ShabaashWomen #ShabaashYou."

The film will highlight the story of Mithali Raj and how she successfully led the women's cricket team to achieve bigger and better things under her captainship.

Backed by Viacom18 Studios, the biopic is directed by Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. "Shabaash Mithu' is a coming-of-age tale of women’s cricket in India as witnessed by the most successful woman cricketer. It will chronicle the highs and lows, setbacks and moments of euphoria of Raj’s life," the official synopsis of the film reads.

No batting for Taapsee Pannu but a fielder in childhood!

After Saand Ki Aankh’s success, beautiful Taapsee Pannu is now hectic in preparation for her upcoming sports biopic, Shabaash Mithu, a biopic on the Captain of the Indian Women's Cricket Team, Mithali Raj.

Lately, Taapsee had disclosed her first look as Mithali Raj, the female cricket stalwart, in her forthcoming movie Shabaash Mithu and it is commendable. Now, Taapsee told in details about her training, the poster and about her emotional connection with the captain.

           

On being cast as Mithali Raj, Taapsee revealed that she was roped in because she and Mithali have similar life approaches and ideologies. She further revealed, "We want to make it as convincing as possible but it is not as important to look like her as it is to perform and behave like her. I was constantly in touch with her while shooting for the poster. She texted me yesterday saying that there is barely any difference between her and me (in the poster). That validation matters a lot. I want her to say this after watching the movie."

Being trained for the poster shoot by Mithali's friend and fellow cricketer Nooshin Al Khadeer, Taapsee revealed, "She taught me the strokes and techniques. I realised then that it will be an intense training. As a young girl, I was a fielder because batting was a boys' thing; they would say cricket isn't a girl's sport."

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Shabaash Mithu is slated for February 5, 2020 release.
