Taapsee Pannu steps into Mithali Raj’s shoes!

Ranveer Singh will star as Kapil Dev in ’83, Shahid Kapoor will play an older batsman in the Jersey remake, and now Taapsee Pannu might bring the top run-scorer in women’s international cricket to life on screen too. Taapsee’s in talks to step into Mithali Raj’s spikes for a Viacom 18-backed biopic. If all goes well, she’ll hit the nets in early 2020 to learn how to play like the former captain before filming begins mid-year. Mithali has said she hopes the movie inspires more young girls to take up cricket. We hope it does too!

Taapsee Pannu learns cover drive for Shabaash Mithu!

After the biopic on the former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev, Taapsee Pannu is all set to bring the life of Indian women's cricket team captain, Mithali Raj, in her biopic. The actress took to her Instagram account and disclosed she will be donning the Indian cricket team jersey in the sports-based film. She chose to make the pronouncement on Mithali's birthday. "On this Birthday of yours I don’t know what gift I can give you but this promise that I shall give it all I have to make sure you will be proud of what you see of yourself on screen with #ShabaashMithu," she captioned a photo of Mithali cutting the cake.

"Happy Happy Birthday Captain @mithaliraj ! You have made all of us proud in more than many ways and it’s truly an honour to be chosen to showcase your journey on screen," she wrote. "P.S- I am all prepared to learn THE ‘cover drive'" she further added.

Taapsee Pannu to depict cricketer Mithali Raj in her next?

As per reports, a biopic on India's most famous woman cricketer Mithali Raj is all set to be made. While the project was pronounced in 2017, the makers of the movie are now keen on roping in vivacious Taapsee Pannu. Taapsee who was lately seen in Game Over has time and again left the viewers impressed and is all set to step into Mithali's shoes.

After essaying a hockey player in Soorma, Taapsee has seemingly agreed to do the movie but is yet to sign and make it official, a report in a daily specified. "The formalities will be done once the studio has a director. They have also locked the story but the script is still being developed," a source revealed to the tabloid.

Talking about essaying Mithali, Taapsee told, "The script is not in place so it’s too early to talk about it. Right now, they are collecting material and the script has not been written yet. If they offer me, I will be very happy. I really want to do a sports biopic," Taapsee revealed in a media chat.

Biopics on the iconic Indian sports personalities become a fascinating theme for the Indian filmmaker. The COO of Viacom18 Motion Pictures disclosed that he will be making a film on the captain of the Indian Women's cricket team, Mithali Raj.

He verified the news to a daily revealing, "Viacom18 Motion Pictures has always been the pioneer in showcasing content with the portrayal of strong women characters right from Queen to Kahaani and Mary Kom. We are proud to be collaborating with the young and inspirational Mithali Dorai Raj, a name that's single-handedly responsible for bringing about a shift in the way the women's cricket team was perceived in our country."

When Mithali Raj was questioned about the same, she told, "I am extremely happy with this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. I'm hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career."

Further biopics being made in Hindi Film Industry are Akshay Kumar's Gold, where he will be seen essaying the role of hockey player Balbir Singh, who was a part of the team that won the first Olympic medal for India as a free nation in 1948.

Then we have Ranveer Singh's 1983 World Cup helmed by Kabir Khan, where the actor will play Kapil Dev. Shraddha Kapoor will be seen as badminton star Saina Nehwal in the movie Saina. Whereas Harshvardhan Kapoor will depict the role of Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra in the biopic Abhinav.
