The news of Abhijit Majumdar's demise has sent shockwaves across Odisha. The veteran artist, who had been battling prolonged health complications at AIIMS Bhubaneswar since September 2025, breathed his last following a cardiac arrest early Sunday morning.

Abhijit Majumdar was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on September 4, 2025, suffering from chronic liver disease, hypertension, and hypothyroidism.

  • The Struggle: He spent months in the ICU and was briefly showing signs of improvement in late December.
  • The Setback: His health deteriorated on January 23 after contracting a fresh infection, leading to refractory septic shock.
  • The End: Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he suffered a cardiac arrest at 7:43 AM and was clinically declared dead at 9:02 AM on January 25, 2026.

2. A Legendary Career: From Sambalpuri to Ollywood

Born on September 11, 1971, in Cuttack, Majumdar’s musical journey began in 1991. He first carved a niche in the Sambalpuri music scene before transitioning to mainstream Odia cinema (Ollywood), where he became a powerhouse composer.

  • Prolific Output: In a career spanning over three decades, he composed music for over 700 songs.
  • Versatility: He was equally adept at soulful melodies and high-energy dance numbers.
  • Blockbuster Hits: His music was a key ingredient in the success of films like Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, Mr. Majnu, and Sundergarh Ra Salman Khan.
