The highly anticipated Grammy Awards 2024 winners were announced on Monday. The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles served as the venue for the main event. The occasion was rendered even more significant for India by the fact that renowned singer-musician Shankar Mahadevan received his first-ever Grammy. In addition, Ustad Zakir Hussain also documented his noteworthy triumph on that historic day.
A long time ago, on February 5, the official announcement of the highly anticipated Grammy Awards 2024 was made. For their joint effort on Pashto, Edgar Meyer, Rakesh Chaurasia, Bela Fleck, and Zakir Hussain were awarded the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance. Rakesh Chaurasia's two Grammy wins and his status as the first Indian musician to win three in a single night further add to the incredible magnitude of the victory.
Renowned musician Ricky Kej expressed his support for the historic occasion by celebrating Hussain and Chaurasia's success on his X.
Additionally, Shankar Mahadevan's fusion ensemble Shakti's most recent album, This Moment, got the title of Best Global Music Album. The achievement is all the more remarkable considering that this will be the group's first new album in over 45 years.
On their X (formerly Twitter) page, the Grammys posted an official statement along with a photo of Mahadevan and fellow band member Ganesh Rajagopalan accepting the coveted prize. “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner - 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs,” the Grammy posted in the post.
Guitarist John McLaughlin, tabla player Zakir Hussain, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan co-wrote eight of the pieces on the album This Moment.
In a moving thank you speech, Shankar Mahadevan praised his
wife for her steadfast support. “Thank you boys and thank you god, family,
friends and India. We are proud of you India. Last but not the least, I’d like
to dedicate this award to my wife, whom every note of my music is dedicated
to,” he told.
