Hansal Mehta is known for making hard hitting and influential
movies. His movie Shahid won a national award and he is making yet another
impactful movie. His movie Aligarh starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role
wrapped up the shoot and will be released soon. The movie touches upon the
controversial topic of homosexuality, where Manoj plays a professor who is
caught having sex with one of his male students. Going by the recent diktat of
the Censor Board, it doesn't seem likely that Aligarh would get the green
signal from the board, but Mehta chooses to stay confident.
The Citylights film-maker hopes that the CBFC board will see
beyond the controversial nature of the movie and instead support the
sensitivity of the content. Mehta is self-confident that the current government
is democratic and will not ban his movie, even though in the past several
extremist outfits have protested against homosexuality depiction in movies.
Aligarh is based on a real life incident and also stars
Rajkummar Rao.
