Sidharth Malhotra's journey in Bollywood is a testament to perseverance and a steady rise from model to a celebrated actor. Known for his captivating looks and an impressive filmography that spans a variety of genres, Sidharth has carved a niche for himself in the competitive Hindi film industry. This article delves into his early life, career path, and the key films that have defined his journey.

Early Life and Entry into Showbiz

Born on January 16, 1985, in Delhi, Sidharth Malhotra hails from a Punjabi family with no prior connections to the film industry. His father, Sunil Malhotra, was a former Merchant Navy captain, and his mother, Rimma Malhotra, is a homemaker. At the age of 18, Sidharth ventured into modeling to earn some pocket money. His striking looks and a tall physique quickly made him a successful model, and he walked the ramp for top designers in India and abroad.

However, Sidharth soon realized his true calling was in acting. He initially got an opportunity for a film directed by Anubhav Sinha, but the project was shelved. Determined to learn the craft of filmmaking, he took up the role of an assistant director for Karan Johar's 2010 film, My Name Is Khan. This behind-the-camera experience proved to be a pivotal turning point, as it paved the way for his grand acting debut.

Filmography: From Romantic Hero to Action Star

Sidharth's official acting debut came in 2012 with Karan Johar's high school romance, Student of the Year. Sharing the screen with fellow debutants Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, Sidharth's portrayal of the earnest scholarship student, Abhimanyu Singh, earned him a Filmfare nomination for Best Male Debut. The film was a commercial success and established him as a promising young talent.

He continued his successful streak with the romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) and the romantic thriller Ek Villain (2014). The latter was a game-changer, showcasing his versatility as he played a hardened criminal seeking revenge. The film became a major box office hit and solidified his position as a bankable star.

His career has since been a mix of highs and lows, with some films receiving critical acclaim while others struggled at the box office. His notable filmography includes:

  • Kapoor & Sons (2016): An ensemble family drama where his performance was widely praised.
  • A Gentleman (2017): An action comedy where he performed his own stunts.
  • Ittefaq (2017): A suspense thriller where he played a negative role, earning him critical appreciation.
  • Marjaavaan (2019): A romantic action film that saw him return to a more intense persona.
  • Shershaah (2021): This biographical war film, where he portrayed the Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra, is widely considered his career-best performance. The film was a huge success, earning him critical acclaim and solidifying his star status.
  • Mission Majnu (2023): An espionage thriller that received a positive response from the audience.
  • Yodha (2024): An action-packed film that further established his image as a formidable action hero.
  • Param Sundari (2025): His latest romantic comedy, co-starring Janhvi Kapoor, has garnered positive reviews and box office success, proving his continued versatility.

Upcoming Projects and Personal Life

Sidharth Malhotra's journey is a testament to his adaptability and commitment to his craft. He has shown a keen interest in exploring diverse genres, from rom-coms to intense thrillers and biopics. His upcoming projects, including the folk thriller Vvan: Force of the Forest, are highly anticipated by his fans.

Beyond the screen, Sidharth has been a frequent presence on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list and is known for his endorsement of major brands. His marriage to actress Kiara Advani in 2023 was a highly-publicized event and became one of the most-liked Instagram posts in India.
