James Van Der Beek, who recently received a diagnosis of
stage 3 colon cancer, reflected on his life's challenges and the support he has
received from loved ones in an emotional Thanksgiving post on Instagram.
James Van Der Beek is particularly grateful for the time he spent with his
loved ones this Thanksgiving, especially after receiving a cancer diagnosis.
The 47-year-old Dawson's Creek star thanked his 42-year-old "superhuman
wife," Kimberly Van Der Beek, for her steadfast commitment in an emotional
Instagram post on Thursday, November 28. He also thanked his supporters and his
six kids in his message for keeping him engaged and active throughout his
health struggle.
Van Der Beek posted a sweet picture of himself and Kimberly with their kids,
Olivia, 14, Annabel, 10, Emilia, 8, and Gwendolyn, 6, posing in a field. He
added, "It's been a tough year… and I'm thankful for all of it."
He further continued, “For the giant life re-direct cancer has placed in my path. For the gift of knowing what it feels like to have friends come through on such a profound level, and in ways I never would have been able to ask for had I not been going through it.”
The actor acknowledged in his Thanksgiving statement that his daily life is impacted by his fans' well wishes and thanked them for their constant love and support during his trying time.
Van Der Beek revealed his third-stage colon cancer diagnosis in a media chat earlier this month. He then praised Kimberly, his "superhuman wife," for helping him in a way he never thought was possible. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to her, whom he has been married to since 2010, for being a living example of the wonder and strength of unconditional love. His words, "I am amazed by you," went on.
Referring to his six children as his "blonde
army," Van Der Beek stated that he loves them above all else.
When Van Der Beek revealed his cancer diagnosis to the public via People, he
said he was undergoing treatment, but he gave no further details.
